Exactly .

I saw this video of a car driving over a spike strip like it was nothing, didn't even slow it down....then there was a strip of cucumbers laid out and the driver braked so hard, that like, smoke came all up from 4 tires and they flatted, plus the car stopped. I think all 4 of the tires were on fire at that point.
OT in the OT: Why do those screaming jumping up and down people around the world set tires on fire when they are miffed about something? It just never occurred to me...man, I am so angry today, that, that, I'm going to set a tire on fire.......THAT'LL SHOW 'EM!

...So I got my scuttle a few weeks ago and have been experimenting on how to get a hot shave. I can get the lather hot, but the heat usually goes away a few seconds after I apply it to my face. is this as good as it gets or can I actually get a hot shave all the way through.

I like posting random questions here, since its usually the same bunch of us that follow this thread. Besides what could be more off topic?

The only truly hot shave I've gotten from a scuttle was when I used boiling hot water from a kettle. But that's about it

Well back in the day when I'd get a shave at my local barber shop the barber would apply a 'warm' lather from a machine to my face, then cover my beard with a 'hot towel' the towel would also cover my entire face and only a breathing hold for my nose was left.

I could hear him stropping the razor and then the towel was removed and more 'warm' lather was applied and then the wonderful shave would begin.

There was Never a 'Hot Lather' only a nice comfortable lather and an excellent shave.

That's what I try to recreate when I shave with my straights. I just can't recreate the wrapping of the towel.

I would suppose that if you have your heart set on a 'Hot Lather' that 'Lasts" maybe some Ben Gay mixed into your later would do the trick but I wouldn't recommend it.

Not sure of an answer for you except to try to get your face and the ambient temperature hotter than the lather or work a lot faster.
I used to lather with water fresh from the kettle which was very hot but slightly uncomfortable*. Then I used ice water and kept my soap in the fridge which was invigorating*, now I keep my soap and cream in the fridge and use ambient temp water*. I still get a good shave and it is pretty easy.


*only while I am away for work. Home shaves are soap from the bathroom cabinet and ambient temp water. Also at work my whole room is air conned to 18 degrees whereas at home it is ambient at around 25, unless it is the summer in which case it is hotter.

Well I think I'm on the right path then gentleman. I was using hot water from the tap, them microwave for 30 sec. I was under the impression that is what a scuttle was for (hot lather) and seems like a lot of money to spend if it does not. I'll try the hot water from the kettle trick and see how that works. on another note, building lather is a lot easier in a scuttle or a mug compared to face lathering.

My back is killing me. Why would a cucumber flatten a tire? Or how? Wouldn't you be better off using some rhubarb? I mean that way the tire would flatten as opposed to the cucumber. Right? This is exactly why my back is killing me. Good night.

Face lathering isn't a lot harder but it is much messier. Be careful of the very hot water. I think that is what killed a couple of cheaper brushes that I used to use.
