Thanked: 4828I made a box for one of my babies for her birthday, tomorrow. I had to mooch some bog oak from Mike, but I managed to get it together. The lid is scrimshaw sea turtles with a bog oak trim. The keeping box is 8x8x3. The main box is Pacific Yew with a red velvet lining.

Thanked: 4828Keepsakes from her travels. She is currently teaching in Korea, it is her second year, she is expecting to be at least one more year there. There are other regions she would like to teach in.

Thanked: 4207That turned out super Shaun. Tight finger joints in that yew and a really nice result.
That bog trims the scrimshaw ink really nicely. The red velvet liner lends a touch of indulgent class to the box. Remind her it's for treasures.
Nicely done buddy.

Thanked: 4828Seeing it all done makes me think there really is not a better wood to trim the scrimshaw with. Does it inspire you to make a Yew box?
A good blade and a well tuned jig are the key to nice tight box joints.
Thanks everyone for the kind words. It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Thanked: 4828That is pretty much all of the bog oak. There was only the cuts from the mitres left over. It was all basically sized around the pieces of bog oak so there would be no waste.
