I was only 1 when you graduated so I act like it's 1982 most of the time
Our party line was connected with the old doctors office. There were times you just didn't want to hear what you did when you picked up the phoneLook sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz

We had a party line when i was young. Was so happy when we got a private line as i figured id be able to chat on the phone when i wanted too. NOT! the ol'man put an egg time on top of the phone. When he caught you on the phone he would turn the egg timer over and then you had 3 mi utes to be off the phone. Hated that damn egg timer!
It's just Sharpening, right?

We had 14 families on our line once.
You would hear some breathing and say hi Beverly [Our long dead neighbor] and you would hear "Click"....

I didn't make a phone call until I was a teenager, maybe 14-15, phones just weren't for play time then, and to be honest when I Retire the next time the phones retiring too. We had one on my dads desk in his den, and we weren't allowed in his den, my mom was the only one. It was a simpler time, if we wanted to play with our friends we got out and went there. Tc

Oh how well I remember when I was in about 4th grade. There was a General Assembly of the grade school classes. There was a rep from the phone company to explain to us kids how the new dial phones worked and I remember that he said that you Never Dialed 0 unless it was an emergency!
We were never allowed to just 'use the phone' when we were kids, we could answer the phone and then tell mom or dad who it was for.
I'm with Tc about not making a phone call until I was a teenager and then it was a quick call to make arraignments for meetings etc.Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

my first call was to the firehouse for an ambulance, I shoved my brother out a window, and I thought he was really needing help. Tc

Thanked: 4207One of the gifts my lovely bride bought me was a vintage Ronson lighter, made in Toronto even, back In the day. Case is in very nice condition, but the flint wheel was seized and the thing barely flicked.
Well rip er down and see what we can do time.
Yup, flint was seized in place, and wheel advancement tang was all messed up.
Little TLC, some mouse milk to get things moving again.
Voila!
Think I can stay up for a small gar..

The flints deteriorate over the years & swell in place. Just a matter of breaking it up with a pipe cleaner, soaking or at worst tap it through the flint tube with a 1/16 bit.
