Ahhh, sorry to read about loosing your job Rich.
I hope you get a new one soon!
Wish I could give you advice but clocks run different over here in Germany/Europe.
Best of luck to you and your family.

I was just reading some of the older posts here. What happened to you happens every day to many others. When a new manager comes in he usually wants his own people especially in other managerial jobs under his. i worked for the INS and we were taken over by Customs and the first thing they did was eliminate all the managerial people from the INS and then started making life miserable for the INS workers until most quite or retired. And this is a government job.
If your boss wants to pass your resume on I would let him do it and thank him profusely for it. Its very possible though he wants his buddy in your job he has nothing personal against you and really would like to help you. Maybe he feels guilty and this is his way of asuaging his guilt to make himself feel better.
In this country networking is the best way to get a position unlike europe where jobs are selected mostly on people's merits here its dog eat dog and the interview is where it all happens. The guy with the best bullshit or best personal recommendation is the winner.Good luck in your quest. And if this resume thing doesn't work out hire a personal injury lawyer and sue the hell out of them for having an unsafe environment. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Funny how so many hate lawyers, but go on to suggest suing. Is that the lawyer's fault or the client's?
Anyway, baring an employment contract (or union contract) an employer has the right to fire you, just as you have the right to quit. Pretty much evens out. You have every right to be devistated, and to a small employer, losing an employee can be pretty devistating too..... happened to me last September and I'm still recovering.
Rich, I'm optimistic enough to hope the fellow is trying to help you out. There could be many reasons why this happened, not all reflecting poorly on you, or him for that matter. I think you've received some great advice. Ask him for the contact info telling him that you REALLY appreicate his help and think it would be more professiional if you applied directly. I would then ask him for a reference that you could attach to the application....
Lots of luck to you.
