I am certain you are right! I just wanted you to know that there are a few among us so that you might state your opinions with this in mind!

    Rich,

consult with an attorney. Do so quickly, because certain statute of limitations will probably run rather quickly, and much faster than you would expect. If they run, then any suit by you would/could be barred.

Also, if you are worried about giving information to your former boss that would justify your termination, i.e. resume fraud, just make sure that the resume that you give him has nothing fraudulent on it. If he has kept a copy of your original resume, then there is no harm in giving him another copy. If he did not keep a copy then he will have nothing with which to compare the resume you give him (unless there are interview notes, or some other 2nd hand documentation regarding your resume/qualifications). Just make sure the resume you give him is Immaculately clean, and I assume your original resume did not fraudulently represent anything. If you have nothing to hide, then hide nothing.

I have two children and a wife which does not work outside the home, and I completely understand the urgency in getting another job/starting a business. If it took the help of my former boss to get another job then I would gladly accept the help.

This means not responding too quickly, and if you do respond, carefully word your reponse so it seems like you have a LOT of options.

Ask him what the job is about and what the company is. You need to do a lot of research on the job, and do it on your own, if you can. Say it sounds interesting and you'll consider it. See if you can, instead, have him introduce you to his friend. Just somehow get it to seem like it's more of a recommendation than charity.

I like Berticus' advice...but I would take it a step further....thank your boss, and then ask him for his friend's name, company name and contact information, and follow up on it on your own. Send the resume' yourself, and don't give it to your former employer. At this stage, he doesn't need to see it....none of his business.

Mention your boss in the cover letter/initial conversation with the contact (to take advantage of any 'connection' there may be), but then do it all on your own.

I've hired a lot of people.....never off a resume alone. The resume and/or the recomendation just gets them in the door. From that point on, its a personal sale.

    Good Luck!

    +1
This is what I would do too. The last job I got "on my own" was my entry level job. Everything since then has been through some contact or other.

I just have to add this. Today I got a call from a headhunter to set up an interview for me on Thursday morning. Well when I got off the phone I was very happy and decided to go to the company cafeteria for a cup of Joe. Well I was walking back to my temporary office when I slipped on a piece of tomato on the floor. The ride to the hospital was interesting. I have a soft cast on my wrist and my back is very sore. At least they prescribed pain killers for me. I just can't believe my luck.

    Yikes Rich!

But hey, it COULD have been worse, right! As you see, I try to keep the "half full" glass attitude

Best of luck on the interview!
