Thanked: 580Covidiots. They're out there..
Our first contender was an arrogant tourist who stated on the news that he wouldn't be self isolating at all despite being requested to do so to stop the spread of the virus.
He was tracked down, deported and our borders were closed to travellers from abroad.
Next, some git stole the tent used for testing.
Probably the most infectious spot in the country.. He is being prompted to come forward and get tested.
Then, a drunken fool down here thought it would be funny if he filmed himself coughing and sneezing on the general public at the supermarket. He then put it on Facebook.

They are everywhere.
Watched the four kids behind us play all afternoon with three cousins. I did not consider our neighbors to be particularly stupid but I have revised that thought. If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

My cousin in Hawaii thought that folks were brighter than what he sees. His wife is a dental surgeon.
Neighbor to one side is non-vax religious and holds prayer meetings for anyone who comes.
Neighbor on otherside has ongoing activities for out of school children.
Cross the street neighbor has nightly parties.
One finger poi for brains! The lot.Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

it's the old story. Folks just put it out of their minds and think it just couldn't happen to them.

The people next door to me are having a party right now. Cars parked all up and down the street. Loud mexican music going on in the back yard and the grill going too. Sounds like fun but who knows if anyone is being careful. I dought it.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Sounds ridiculous - in the Philippines the president publicly told the military to shoot offenders. One way to get people in line.
From what I have seen here - people have been pretty good and in many neighboring SE Asian countries, the wider population appears listen to the government directives, not so many political motivations causing misinformation, no factions challenging the science or not as many ‘I know betters’ in the general population.
Stay safe there, keep away from your neighbors and I hope the music is bearable

Thanked: 1081We have more than our fair share of idiots over here, luckily parties are getting stopped by the Police. Sneezing on others on purpose is 2 years in prison. Gatherings are getting dispersed and fines issued.
Some people just really dont care about anyone else but themselves but the biggest idiot is Scotlands chief medical officer, Dr Catherine Calderwood. She had to resign for flouting her own advice. Twice!

Let me put it this way: The number of idiots in Germany and the US should be similar. Yet Germany is seeing a slower spread of COVID-19, fewer deaths, and fewer idiots in the streets.
The difference in my opinion is that in Germany, we have principled, disciplined leadership at national and state level; a comparatively much higher amount of trust in politicians, government, and the media; and a universal multi-payer health care system, paid sick leave, and so on.
In other words, and as a right-wing capital C Conservative with a libertarian streak: In a pandemic crisis, you want a functioning government, and you want a big government - even if it is devolved like ours, cf Germany's devolved logic is helping it win the coronavirus race. Most importantly, though, you want trusted leaders who understand science, listen to experts, and are able to overcome political divides at a time when only a unified approach across the entire country will effectively prevent further outbreaks, or a second wave.
But even more than that you want people who are willing to unify, and who will not see people with whom they have policy disagreements as "enemies of the people," "human scum," or any of these things.Last edited by RobinK; 04-08-2020 at 07:07 PM.

Thanked: 292Crises like a pandemic bring out both the best and the worst in people. While there are many selfless people who are risking their lives to serve other, idiocy abounds in fools.
I saw an online petition that was in favor of forced quarantine for all senior citizens and other most vulnerable to the virus, yet allowing everyone else to go about their normal lives. it is those who are less vulnerable to the disease who have the virus in their bodies but show few if any symptoms who are the ones likely to be spreading the disease. They are modern day Typhoid Marys.
Then there was the guy who believes grocery stores should be closed to protect the workers. I guess that would stop the spread of the virus; after everyone died of starvation, nobody would be left to catch the virus.
The guy should have read the history books concerning the black plague. A famine made the people of Eurasia vulnerable to the disease. An estimated 100 million people died, this was about a third of the world's population at the time. While tragic, the death rate from COVID-19 is not nearly that high.
