And 'because' among virtually all the people I know includes the following reasons:
    - the grand parents want it

    - there is a party associate with it, and the follow up rituals
    - everybody else does it

Well after reading some of the comments about its "apparently" done for "hygiene" reasons lead me to believe that may be why my cousin had to be circumcised when he was older. Apparently when his foreskin was pulled back at some point it would not go back down and cover the head, so he had to have it removed. Poor hygiene or freak accident.

That is so unprofessional!!! Although I must agree that perhaps that's what the reality is.

Or perhaps it is like when you go for a regular prostate exam, if the doctor likes your prostate he/she would spend an extra 20 minutes making sure it's all really good.

Methinks going to a real, unbiased, professional would be the better option, although perhaps a bit more expensive one. And sometimes the availability is just not there, so there may simply be no choice.

I think, I've heard of a medical condition that OLD_SCHOOL refers to, but I don't think they perform a full circumcision, just a small cut at the tip to enable full clearing.

Oh, well, may be we have exhausted the topic, but it was certainly interesting to see the different approaches to this conundrum. I do not have kids yet so it's not an issue I'm likely to face in near future.

I'm unsnipped and the only other...sample...the wife-to-be had seen was snipped. Thankfully she didn't react, but she did later profess it was a little weird. I guess guys could have a similar reaction if a woman's labia was substantially different from his previous encounters.

Incidentally, on the hygiene angle, having a foreskin increases the amount of stuff rubbing on the glans. If you don't naturally lubricate well and neglect to add some artificial stuff, you can get some chafing on both bits. Gets kind of red and puffy. Not a fun time, let me tell you. Much more careful now, though.

    Interesting post.

People who are circumcised and lament the fact that they are have waaaay too much time on their hands.

    But not enough skin.

Ok, I'm officially the guy that took this thread into the gutter.

LOL.... uhhh, if you say so.

Interestingly I can contemplate one thing while doing the other and considering a situation and formulating an opinion on it really is not a horribly time consuming activity. I can do things like that while, say, driving, or sitting on the toilet. Its not like I am curled up in corner covered in ash and sackcloth and wailing or planning a sit-in and painting picket signs for a demonstration or something.

I do a lot of thinking on the can. Isn't that multi-tasking?

The point I was trying to get across is that since you really can't change it, why worry about it?

I suppose the answer is that it gives us something to talk about in the off-topic forum.

It absolutely is multitasking! Some of my best thinking is done in the can.
