For me, it's 70's rock. I also enjoy lots of 60's as well- lots of overlap between the decades. Zepplin, Clampton, Skynyrd, Chicago, Heart, Neil Young, The Who, Grand Funk Railroad, Earlier VanHalen, Aerosmith, etc...
It's what I grew up with.

I likes me some screaming guitars! Not really into metal, but I appreciate just about anything in a musical form. Spent my high school years playing jazz and big band music. I remember listenin' to country when country wasn't cool.

Technically difficult alternative. Think early smashing pumpkins.

    Anything Rock almost.....

So that includes punk, metal, alternative, also bluesy stuff, jazzy stuff (Brian Setzer anyone) and more laidback mellow music. (Dave Matthews Band anyone?)

I can't stand most Rap music...I HATEHATEHATE most R&B and pop songs and can't stand trance/hardcore techno etc.

Offcourse within the metal/rock/alternative etc genres I have certain bands that stand out as being very good and others that I can't listen to for more than a minute.

Love real mountain music, guitars, mandolin, dulcimer. 60's rock and folk. I'm old, avoid rap of any kind.

When I was in college, studying for my finals I would put the cd on autorepeat, and play either 'my dying bride' or mozart's requiem continuously for 12 hours per day.
There are no metal stations in Houston, Texas either, but I have every My Dying Bride album and somehow muddle through. I put an mp3 changer in the car and don't ever listen to the radio anymore. I listen to lots of Goth/Doom metal and assorted other stuff..no rap

If it pays, I play it. If I get to chose, it's classical, jazz, chamber, swing, Latin, Salsa. NO rap or country. I make most of my money playing big band.
