Thread: Banned from Badger and Blade

Congratulations mike you are more than likely better off, it is indeed sad for those who look to B&B for help. They will be the ones who are hurt the worst. Used to belong to B&B until I found SRP, and then I just lost interest.

There's the pot, and here's me stirring it.

personally I think that place has lost its way. If you notice there are a good number of people who post on the straight section who start their post with "well I don't use a straight" and then advise people on straight shaving and express their opinions on shaving with a straight.

I guess I missed the action this weekend where I guess Joel got into it with Robert Williams so they erased Williams posts but left Joel to expound.

And then there are the guys who post in the general forum there about how they use the cheapest possible means to shave and can complete a shave in like 6 minutes and they just hate to shave.

Ya know, the irony too is that Joel started out with straights then got into DEs after a roomate or friend brought one for him to check out.

that may be part of why I was banned... I disagreed with the way they handled it.

There is nothing wrong with writing a review, but when you aren't impartial, the review loses credibility.
It would be improper for me to write a review of an item I was trying to sell on my site. Just as it would be improper to review Livi razors if I am trying to negotiate with him to be his supplier in the US. Or to write a bad review, and attack his work when he says no.
I do not know details of the exchanges that went on, or what bad blood exists between these two members, but there clearly was more than just a simple disagreement between a customer and manufacturer.
The nature of custom razors is that if a deal falls through, somebody will buy it. I don't see why the purchaser didn't just get a refund, and the maker didn't sell to another party. Unless somebody refused to work on a resolution.

I have only had business dealings with one of these individuals, and I have recieved nothing but professionalism, courtesy, and respect. If his professional attitude is reflected in his razors in any way, I am confident that I will be satisfied with out transaction.

i'd steer you towards an Ellis, or a Zowada. They're the only custom razors worth spending $ on in my opinion. All other makes seem to have much lower quality, poor fit and finish, or require a trip or two back to the maker to have 'em right.

Yes all razor manufacturers have their good and their bad, but to allow one member to bash another, and to only erase the posts after the offended member defended his position, and work.

Ellis and Zowada are both excellent artisans, but please don't assume that all other razor makers are manufacturing garbage.

I like Roberts work. Joe Chandler is making some awesome blades. Livi, josh Earl, etc... Wacker razors are customs, and all are absolutely worth the money. We have new makers emerging all the time, and it is exciting. LR Harner on SRP is making some interesting pieces, they look good, he is improving quickly, I am happy to support members who are trying to do this, even if his razors are not yet an image of perfection, appreciate the fact that you are getting a one of a kind razor from a budding artist.(I hear they shave well too) http://straightrazorpalace.com/fo...ad.php?t=19935

Each manufacturer has a different style, You need to chose the manufacturer for that style, as much as price, and design.
If you are not happy with the final outcome, give the manufacturer a fair chance at fixing the problem. They are all artists, and would rather have their work back than have you dislike it.

Sorry to hear that you got banned Mike. If you need copies of any of the reviews let us know....I've been known to voice my opinion with gusto on occasion and have awaited being banned but it has never happened. Lucky Me! However I run a forum along with a couple of other people and I did ban one person myself. From his perspective I am sure it wasn't deserved...of course from mine I figured he had been warned and it was time to stop calling myself and the rest of the people running our group "stupid". He was still alowed to play on our servers and the forum ban ended up being lifted. Now he has calmed down and is a better member of the community. Sometimes however things like what happened to you happen.... what yah gonna do?....punt

Lets not veer into the realm of bashing another forum on this one. Its fun to play games with them, and we all offer our condolences to those who have suffered banning, but anything more is a little beneath us.

I'm happy to report that Oldfashioned based on my invitation at Mike's suggestion is joining SRP as we speak.

Let's all give em a warm welcome!

Oh, and I agree with Tim about not turning this into a bashing one forum type thing. I do want to share the following and I don't think it's bashing, and is certainly not meant to me. It's simply how I personally feel:

I go to B&B every once and awhile but since I shave with straights exclusively and even though I frequent mostly the straight razor related areas of B&B, I just don't have fun there. I will say early on B&B's info on prep was absolutely valued to me and I'm grateful for it.

We'll welcome you with open arms.

The thing with this banning is there was no warning, no first or second chance, I was just banned.

I'm not sure if i pissed them off when I suggested this new straight afficianado go check out SRP, if it was simply the fact that I disagreed with Joel...

Of course telling him he was being negative, and that he should go play with his new leg shaver DE, couldn't have helped...
