Thread: Banned from Badger and Blade

Yeah. I joined TSD as well some time ago. But this here is where my "roots" are. And most other forums just don't have the atmosphere that this one does.

What you've just posted barely scrapes the surface of it all - that's the things that got public. I don't want to rant here, but did you see all those banned vendors over there? If someone doesn't do what Joel wants or if his business interferes with one of his friends (think blade sampler packs and Connaughtshaving vs. letterk) they get banned in an instant. If you ask a question he doesn't like, you're banned. If you tell him to shave his legs with a DE, you're banned
If Joel continues at this pace he will soon have no members left to ban

Thanked: 0B&B, which is a site that I love, has had a weird weekend. I found the attacks on RW very disappointing, and the hostility to people like mike ratliff for encouraging a guy to use a str8 just bizaare. And the banning of people contributing to the forum strikes me as petty - web 2.0 relies on good honest genuine user generated content - not drinking the koolaid.
I'm glad this thread is here or I wouldn't have understood where all those B&B voices went. So while bashing other posts isn't great, it is a service to be able to figure out somewhere what the heck is going on over there, because I was getting pretty confused.
By the way, I can't seem to post from my preferred account "loueedacat" which I think I left idle for a while. Anybody have any idea how I can free it up to make posts. I'm pretty sure I was never banned here.

Thanked: 12In all honesty, I don't have anything nice to say about B&B aside that it was the place where I found mantic59's youtube videos (which helped immensely) and it got me onto C&S no88 cologne. They tried to steer me away from straights but failed.
The RW thread was in bad taste, hell the entire thread was derailed by Joel on a power trip imo. But an opinion is just that *shrugs*
On a side note, I was banned from an ELECTRIC razor forum for suggesting they lighten the rules about not speaking (at all) about blade shaving, to the point where they actually ***'d out the word blade. I dearly hope that this place never becomes like that.
We like straight shaving, but we shouldn't take the attitude of being holier than thou because we do it. It isn't for everyone, and most of us came from other methods of shaving, so there is no reason not to discuss those forms of shaving in comparison.
I like the attitude of "I shave with a straight because it gives me a better shave, ymmv" more than "I shave with a straight razor because it is the one and only best way to shave and all other methods should be banned/outlawed"

Wow! This is some crazy stuff. I've never heard of anyone being banned from a "grown -up" orientated forum. Especially when there were no outward hostilities involved.
I too started out over at B&B some years ago. I've always been into the wet shaving thing and have always used an old DE that I got from my gramps. Yeah, sometimes I used a Muck 3 however, I always remember checking out the straight section of B&B while I was there and seeing some of the way cool razors and such. I finally found this place about a week before I switched over to straights and have never been back to B&B. Now that I'm here and looking back, this place just has way more to offer for me.

Thanked: 131There are a couple of threads on SRP at the moment about why capitalism failed and why global warming is nonsense....
I swear, poor old Joel would have a cardiac arrest!!!
EDIT: I have since joined B+B JUST to comment on that thread. I suggest you read the thread mike... if only to see the response. I expect to be banned myself very soon. Looking forward to setting up that support group.Last edited by sidneykidney; 04-14-2008 at 01:40 PM.

Thanked: 11Sorry to hear about the ban.
It is sad when one gets banned from a forum for disagreeing with the accepted wisdom, but internet forums are not a democracy and you have to either live with your rulers or find a new forum.
The way I see it, is that the internet in general, and online forums in particular, are there to make available a collection of information (good and Bad), in one place and allow the viewer to decide which of this information to use and accept. This is why one must search long and hard in order to discover the good advice (Which is repeated frequently), from the poor advice.
Forums of a similar nature can all gain from collaboration. I have seen this on other sites before (Even though the management of 2 forums disagreed, they still collaborated with each other, and shared many members). It is sad that the collaboration between SRP and B&B seems to be diminishing due to the way Joel seems to be running things over there.
I have only ever read posts at B&B, but have recently started to contribute here. Both forums have the potential to be great resources and communities, but at the moment SRP seems to be reaching this potential more.
