What makes you think the picture you see is a traditional Muslim grab?
It is must be the stereotypical view of a Muslim that makes you think that.
Muslims live in many different parts of the world and come in all shapes and sizes. Contrary to popular belief a majority of the Muslims are not from Middle East (sorry but I had to burst the bubble here)
People, traditions and their culture are influenced primarily by where they live not by their religious beliefs.
Muslims are not offended by cartoons at all they love watching the Familiy Guy, South Park, Beavis and Butthead.
Many Muslims are are offended by cartoons of Prophet Mohammed, and that has to do with idol worship (I would love to explain but I am writing too much and I am hungry).
Would you be up in arms or offended or peeved if you saw a Muslim in a business suit? or a dress?
Hope I answered your question...Last edited by Amyn; 07-17-2008 at 06:07 PM.

The few Muslims I've known or studied with in school have shown me photos of what they called their traditional dress. They are all Middle-Eastern as well. Maybe it's a mistranslation or something

The dress is traditional Middle Eastern, certainly not traditional Muslim.
In fact there is no such thing as a traditional Muslim attire or culture, because it would be foolish to classify one billion people as a monolith, i hope you agree?..
I am attaching a picture.. on first glance you may think it is some kind of building from the orient.....
It is actually a Chinese mosque.
Surprised..??Last edited by Amyn; 07-17-2008 at 06:12 PM. Reason: further elaboratation...

I totally agree! I don't know very much about traditional religious dress in Islam other than what I've seen in photos of men bowing down in temples and at Mecca.

Tim, it seems to me you really didn't get the cartoon and still not getting it.
The title of the cartoon is 'The Politics of Fear'. Few other cartoons from the same artist:
“Deluged,” September 19, 2005.
“Narrow Stance,” October 8, 2007.
(nice muslim garb on this one, btw)
“At Risk?” August 30, 2004.
“Diversionary Tactics,” October 11, 2004.
“The Odd Couple,” December 5, 2005.
Hope these help to clarify the idea....

Its pretty much the same when the media depicts any group of people if it were christians, youd have the ignorant bumpkin dressed in hillbilly rags, shotgun/deer rifle in one hand , bible in the other doing a John Brown impersonation. Which is why you shouldnt trust the mainstream media for information, what they give you is designed to be easily grasped, ingested and spewed opinions. If you ask me(thank you for asking
) the media in this country does more to spread ignorance, fear and division in this country than any group or groups of racial supremicists(black/white/other) terrorists, or bigots of any kind. Once divided, easily conquered by politicians and then delivered to the money/power brokers. The whole while the average joe is in a stupor wondering WTF is going on and/or blaming his neighbor for ingesting/believing/spewing the oppositions crap. Your hero is their scapegoat and vice versa, the people remain in turmoil and life is good for the man behind the curtain pulling the strings.
