Thanked: 586I love reading through these political threads. I like them because they all read the same and I happen to dislike surprises. What I don't understand is why people continually argue with other people's opinions.
Folks who have made up their minds, have pretty much done just that. IMHO (uh oh, here's another opinion), attempting to change someone's mind is like trying to fit something into an already overstuffed closet. Once you get the door open (if you can get the door open) all the stuff already in the closet just falls out on your head.

We have to argue with the other guy!!! He must change his mind, because he is wrong, pig headed, and ruining the country. If we don't change his mind he will continue to lead us down the path to destruction the same as he is responsible for all the ills we are currently suffering.

Anyway, back to the cartoon:
Isn't it funny that Muslims aren't getting offended? I mean the tend to have a low threshold for offense at cartoons anyway, and if I saw Obama pictured in my traditional garb as a attempt to poke fun, I'd get offended. Kind of like a Polish joke offends a Pole. Yet they aren't up in arms about it? why?
Another interesting thing:
Obama IS offended, and e know the Muslims are easily offended by cartoons,
Denmarks proven that, Again makes you think.

a recent discussion with my 2 sister-in-laws explains this phenomenon aptly:
sil1 likes obama. sil2 likes mccain. as you all know, i am a libertarian and despise both of them. we are talking about politics, and i am arguing with sil1's ideas about welfare and taxes, when all of a sudden, sil2 asks me:
"why aren't you trying to change my mind about mccain?"
me: well, you have considered his positions, you have thought about the alternatives, and you have made your choice. i won't try to change your mind
sil2: but why are you arguing with sil1?
me: because she HASN'T thought about it, she is just going on emotion, and doesn't have any rational backing for her position. YOU do. rational people don't try to change eachother's mind, because they respect one another.
sil2: well, it's true, she knows nothing about the issues, she just likes his speeches.
me: bingo. if she's dumb enough to be swayed that easily, i might as well trick her into voting for the candidate *I* like.
note: the two sisters could have easily been on opposite sides, politically, it's moot to me because they are both worthless candidates. just an observation i thought i'd share... when i meet someone with a well thought out position, that is solid and logical, i don't really care if they agree with me or not; it's their right to make up their own minds. but the folks who choose a candidate and their mind ain't really a part of the equation... well, i'll do what i can to use them to my own ends, 'cause they're idiots, and that's all idiots are good for.
