And no matter how you view it this whole Wright thing can say nothing good about the character of the man. Either he is a racist America hating bigot, or he is a hypocrite without solid beliefs who doesn't pay attention when things are going on around him.
Which of the above is a trait we want in a president?

Maybe a strange question, but why would a president have to be a religious (christian) person?
And why does he need the happy traditional family?
Does a divorce or different religion (or lack thereof) make you unfit for leading the country?Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Interesting...
This is for the most part how it works here. While unions may endorse a candidate, it doesn't guarantee that the entire union will vote in that direction. I think union support is more a means to sway other voters by appearing bona fide. This was the case, at least, in my old home state and seems to be the case in my new one which are both right to work states in which unions have virtually no hold.

because in order to be liked BY the majority, you have to be LIKE to majority. apparently.
there was some fuss when JFK was up for election about his Catholocism, and that's a pretty mainstream religion. I'd love to see some sort of neopagan run for office, the uproar and mudslinging would be hilarious, I'd actually start watching TV again just to see the brouhaha.
but in all seriousness, pretty much all religions are insiders clubs, and insiders will usually vote for other insiders. since the vast overwhelming majority of the US self-identifies as some brand of Christianity, the candidate who does NOT belong to that club will not get voted for, very much. personally, this makes me pretty irate, but it's just a market reality.Last edited by jockeys; 07-16-2008 at 04:28 PM.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but as an aside, I think people are looking for someone who can commit, if you are going to tell people that you are not a muslim but rather a christian and then have to distance yourself from the pastor and the teachings that youve listened to for 20 years people are naturally going to question what you say you are committed to.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain
