Thats funny
I think you might be joking,
but in case you did not understand ... let me say it again .... The attire is traditional Middle Eastern (and worn by people from the Middle East which including Christians, Jews, and Muslims) .
The Middle East has less than 10% of the entire Muslim population. Hence the attire depicted in the cartoon is not traditional Muslim attire....
It would be like saying kilts are traditional Christian attire because the people from Scotland wear kilts.Last edited by Bruno; 07-17-2008 at 08:13 PM.

Although very funny, I have to wonder, WWJT. (what would jesus think) I can just picture him shaking his head and thinking, God does it ever end.At least we are getting some humor in here. The same kind of satire is probably used around the world when poking fun at the west, specifically the USA.

I usually stay away from threads of this nature (Americans+teh internetz+politics= long debate), but if I may chime in a bit on the cartoon with Obama in it.
Well first I should mention that my mom is from Denmark and my dad from Jordan which is the reason that I believe I have a bit of insight in the "offensive cartoon" theme and the garb of Obama.
The attire worn in the picture appears to be a kaftan which is very normal to wear when you're relaxing like drinking tea and playing backgammon with your friends. Heck my dad wears one here in Denmark sometimes when he's at home.
And of course a very large number of people also use them on the job and such. It varies a lot from region to region.
So, really, I would compare it to wearing a cap or a hat in western countries - some do and some don't. Irregardless of the possibly holed analogy, there's nothing offensive about the clothes.
As to the rest of the picture I don't see any Muslim who is not being facetious as being aggravated by it. Furthermore there's a burning American flag in the fireplace, which is by all intents a good thing if you're the type of person who would be offended by an anti Muslim cartoon in the first place.
Also the overall theme of the picture strikes me as a very internal American affair thing. So over here, in the non colonials, the people just don't care.
I have yet to see anything at all about it in the media or hear anyone around me speak of it and I doubt I will.Last edited by Chady; 07-18-2008 at 02:00 PM.

I think he means that if you were the person who would be offended by a cartoon involving islam or muslims, the burning US flag would compensate for the supposed offense.
From what I see on the news, burning the US flag is commonly done by radical muslims if there is a tv crew nearby. So perhaps they would be less offended if the cartoon also contained a burning flag.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
