Excuse me but look at our own government it was shown that it was easer to get information out of the Russian government than ours and no other government in the world had the secrecy laws we have; the BBC did a program on it at the time.
Why should the EU or NATO send in troops to help Georgia they do not belong to either and why should we help them they are the aggressor and are now crying for help because they got their butts kicked, would they be shouting about the killings they committed if the Russians had let them get away their invasion.
It’s like a seven year old facing off to a twenty-year-old scrum half and then crying about it when he gets hurt, Georgia invaded and got repulsed not the other way round.
When are people going to forget about what Russia did in the past to their own or others how long do they or any other country have to apologise for their past, every country has things they would rather forget, which country invented modern slavery, built an empire by invading almost all of the known world, raped said countries of their natural resources, subjugated the indigenes peoples or invented concentration camps (not the Germans) but we are proud of the fact we did all but the last one which we conveniently forget about and blame the Germans for to this day.
    End of rant

Georgia and Russia agreed to cease fire and back away from each other.

The sort of ceasefire where the Russians keep on shooting & blowing up unimportant stuff like naval dockyards you mean? No I am not inventing it. There have been reports of it all day here.

Much is written here correctly. But you forget, that Georgia began the war. It began to bomb civilian for what, they do not want to live in Georgia. And Russia only want to protect their citizens.

I am a cynic I know but I cant help seeing similarities here:

Small country has problems within itself and tries to deal with it by force, dictatorstyle. Larger countries wade in telling them what they are doing is wrong and that they should not use force to dictate and opress. The larger countries use bombs to express themselves. The larger countries are condemned by other nations.

I know this view wont be popular, i'm just making a point. And before anyone else says it I know the UK was involved in the war on Iraq. I'm not saying they arent. I'm simply saying I see similarities.

I'm under the impression that the Georgian government was properly elected by the citizens of that country...If that's the case, I think it lends some legitimacy to their fighting rebels. They also hadn't demonstrated aggression by trying to annex two of their neighbors in the decades prior and I don't think they were in violation of UN mandates.

Russia never said anything when we invaded Iraq and overthrew the government. Does it matter what Russia might want to do to Georgia, especially since they showed signs of first-aggression?

Simply put: It's none of our f'n business.
