This is getting a little off topic guys. My point in mentioning what Musashi said was simply that small or large, the principles for dealing with the economy are always the same!

Yep. Deregularization will let greedy bastards get rich while driving the underlying system into the ground, and the bastards who allowed this to happen should be tarred and feathered.

It's for this reason that financial industry needs auditing.
It's for this reason that pharmaceutical industry needs auditing (I say this as a big pharma employee).
It's for this reason that police needs internal affairs department.
It's for this reason that there is a national separation of powers, so that one gov branch doesn't get to run the country.

Doing away with the oversight 'because capitalism is the best system' and 'the market will sort itself out' was a disaster.

    You said it yourself
I don't take it the wrong way my friend. I also believe that if all were selfless, Socialism and Communism would work well, but we were not all made that way, now were we!
It is for this very fact that a free market system will always work better than the afore mentioned systems!
Free market is better for the economy, but it needs oversight, precisely because we are not all selfless, or even just decent.

Who said anything about doing away with common sense oversight? We do have laws in place to deal with many of the illegal activities that might come up, besides which, if you paid attention to the links I supplied (now I know why nord jim never supplies links) you will note that the Republicans were arguing for oversight and the democrats were against it!
Again, this is not to be strictly lying the blame on the shoulders of democrats. The ball-less republicans should also get a fair share of the blame, and the banks who went right along with congress for a short term gain without screaming bloody murder all the way up to heaven! Here is my problem, when it became apparent that the house of cards was going to fall down around us, the only voices to be heard, however faint they were, warning us to put on the brakes were republican\leaders in the house and senate, the nay sayers, the ones who wanted to continue the party were the democrat leaders, and guess where all the blame is being laid, thats right, you guessed it, at the feet of the republicans!

Incredibly cheap shot, considering you've refrained from responding to anything. I do look at your links. They're usually Fox News. Why don't you just go to Rush Limbaugh and have done with it.

For the record, I find this link very useful: Google

Have I said anything false? Can you make a good argument for that?

The appropriate response, when one doesn't have a good counter-argument, is "Good point. I never thought of that," not an ad hominem attack.

It seems there is no spokesman for the middle these days with the religious right taking over the Republican Party and the liberals with their socialistic stands taking over the Democratic Party. The Republicans want to tell me what to believe in and try to legislate morality. The Democrats want to take the money I have worked all my life for and give it away to people who don't work and I have absolutely no say to who it goes. Please someone stand up and speak for us who are in the middle of the political spectrum. "When is my stimulus check coming".

This is exactly how I feel. With Dems and Repubs making bad decisions left and right, and fervent supporters blindly following them on either side, most of the nation is giving up control in some way or another. The only third party options seem to be pretty extreme too. I wish I didn't love this country so much, maybe then I could "ex-pat" somewhere without feeling lonely.

Thanks 2-sharp, sincerely, for pointing this out.

To those who bemoan our so-called slide towards socialism:
Would you do away with Social Security? After all, the system was initiated, and continues to operate, upon the premise that the present-day recipients are not receiving back money they previously paid into the system. Rather, the first generation of recipients (your great grandparents, in most instances) paid nothing into the system and received benefits from present-day workers who wages were taxed to pay those who hadn't paid into the system. The same scenario still applies. So is this a form of intolerable socialism?
Ditto as to our country's income tax system. Should we do away with this as well? After all, it takes money out of one pocket and puts it into another.
And what of Medicare and Medicaid? Same idea. These are programs designed to keep folks from "falling thru the crack" or incurring financial ruin due to no fault of their own, and yet are inherently "socialistic" from a philosophical standpoint.

Beware of the politicians they all have an agenda. Here are the real facts about the Depression that O'Bama is saying he is preventing. I am 57 and have lived through the 80's....this is no Great Depression folks. It is just an excuse to make the Federal Government bigger. Fear mongering by anyone does not help the guy who has to get up and go to work every day.

We don't need those programs and we don't need taxes - we can just print our own funny- er, I mean paper money and borrow from China as needed

Sorry JMS I won't be posting on this issue any longer I am spending most of my time drilling for the near day when we all must stand up against the tyrany of government with our lives. I feel that with what is currently being done to us there will soon be no choice but to rebel against those currently holding the weak and foolish of this nation in thrall and undefensibly imposing their assanine policies upon us with out our consent.
