Thanked: 4I really like my various battle rifles, but I LOVE good handguns. The two pistols I really enjoy bringing out to the range are my .58 flintlock and my .44 AMP 180. I rarely fire either much, though. The former due to the extreme PITA of cleaning it, and the latter 'cause it's designed as a pure hunting handgun (parts start breaking at 3000 rounds). The .58 shakes the range more than _any_ other gun I have, maybe due to the period musket loads I shoot (70 gr FFg, patched ball).

Thanked: 0Hey, Lynn,
I saw that you were looking at sporting clays guns.
Check out shotgunreport.com for some great info.
You want the gun to fit differently than for other types of shooting.
Give me a call or pm if you want some more info, since this is a hobby of mine.
Since you say you are a novice, you would probably do best with a Beretta Autoloader (sporting clays model) in 12 guage. Very reliable and popular and many major championships won with that gun. Also relatively inexpensive.
See the shotgunreport.com Report Pairs article to see why you would probably want the Beretta rather than some other autos.
The most popular over under would be a Browning - probably best bang for the buck.
O/U are a lot more expensive to fit - the Beretta auto comes with shims to adjust the cast off. O/U has to be bent or wood inlet.
If you haven't shot a round of sporting clays, do it - a blast.

Hey there Superfly,
Yea It's been a while since I've been around here haha.. appearently too long, since things have gone all lime green and baby blue?!?!
No problem and your welcome for what little help I could offerHow's that DOVO treating you these days?
Hey again JohnP,
Isn't it sad that a state with so much military force and occupation passed laws that made many of their own law enforcement officers felons.. I could never sell many of my firearms, but i knew better than to try and bring them with me.
The M40 was made to order, as pretty much all TBA rifels are... and there is usually a significant wait for one (some times unreasonably long, border line wondering if you've been ripped off long).
If your interested in TBA rifle here is their site:
http://texasbrigadearmory.com/
They do M40's as well as M24's and DMR's... but they arent cheap(even by custom built standards), and the dont come fast (if they are even still doing business its been about 6-7 years since I got mine)
Another place that does excellent, mil-spec (possibly exceeding) tactical rifles is GA Precision ( http://www.gaprecision.net/ ) and George can build you an M40, M24, DMR what ever floats your boat.

Thanked: 4942Thanks Bob. I'm gonna check it out. The company I work for has a limited membership at a nice range here in Medina, OH. I think I'm gonna get the chance for some lessons soon as well as a couple of our guys are sproting clay instructors and shoot weekly there plus supervise company events. Lynn

You haven't chosen the most practical of weapons, Hoekman. Heh heh.
If I were to get a handgun of that caliber, it'd be the long-barrelled one.

Thanked: 1I am short, so a long barreled would even stick out from under a long riding coat. :-D
And this is all for my "dream future cabin", 1 for close bears, 1 for distant walking food .....

(practicality I'd go for a short 9 mm beretta, or a glock 11 I think it was)
