i agree that politics should be discussed, but only in the proper forum.
people are here to enjoy themselves, political conversations always anger, and online political conversations, without proper guidelines, always leads to arguments and people not being happy.
see bork thread.
thus, political convos are either forbidden, or locked the moment they turn unpleasant at most public forums. Every one im on in fact, besides forums specificly for arguing.
i think serious, potentially angering political convos should be kept to places like politicalforum.com and scam.com
political convo is great, but theres a time and a place, and to me anyways, Straight razor Place, is not the right one.

uhmmm i dunno. i think its a mistake.
thats my point. we shouldnt.
theres no proper guidelines and loose moderation. that equals angry flaming convo.
just my 2 cents.
im active on like a dozen forums, and the poltical convo is very restricted on them all, because of that reason.
the only ones that typicly allow it are troll forums, for people that like to argue and be angry
abortions, by these loose guidelines i could totaly start a thread about that. but that would undoubtedly lead to someone whos had to do it for some reason being all hurt and ****ed off. this isnt the right place for it.
i tihnk more suitable topics for the offtopic thread here would be other interests of leisure, Forum Games, activities you like, hobbies, maybe even hassles with the wife. not serious political debate
my opinion: if u wanna talk politics join a political forums, dont potentially ruin the razor forum for someone elseLast edited by The0ctopus; 05-30-2009 at 06:34 PM.

We are better self policers than virtually(heh) all other fora. When we fail in this regard, I'm sure the mods will step up and respond the way mods do on those other forums. Until then, we enjoy a rare liberty here on the web which, only because we can keep civil, we are all better off for. I learn stuff.

(Bolded part - O, that wouldn't get ugly... )
I think as long as a thread of any sort is clearly labeled it should be allowed to happen. Moderators should step in if it gets into personal attacks. Heated political discussions can be very enlightening as long as it sticks to the political, and does not devolve into the personal. If someone is going to present something as fact, they should be given the opportunity to and have the obligation to provide rational and factual documentation.
And - if it's clearly labeled as a political discussion, people who don't want to talk about it have the option of not.

thats not right. for the most part i agree with you. but the whole properly labeled thing.
not to flog a dead horse, but take the very political convo of Abortion. if i started a thread here entitled "Abortions: Yay! or Nay!?"
that would undoubtedly ruin some persons day. period. without even openign the thread.
like the "saddams been hung, hooray!" threads that popped up everywhere when that happened, and upset alot of people.
open doors on political convo is a very dangerous path for a happy fun, non political foum
where do you draw the line?
politics are personal.
to have open honest political discussion means allowing both sides, which gets totally UGLY.
The KKK, political topic. Abortion, political topic, genocide, political topic, Doyou really wanna do this here? both sides of the argumnents?Last edited by The0ctopus; 05-30-2009 at 06:54 PM.

Obviously there are limitations - if there were a case going through court, it could be more delicately labeled, sure. It is not perfect, but it would be better than having it called "buttercream frosting recepies" and then being hit with an abortion debate upon opening the thread.
