I could be wrong here, but I think you're mixing up PETA with the Humane Society or SPCA.
Last I heard, PETA doesn't actually rescue animals. In fact, last I checked that didn't do anything useful at all. Their founder's description that they are a bunch of "press sluts" seems very accurate.
All they do is make a bunch of political stunts, throw red paint on people wearing fur coats, and occasionally incite their members to pointless violence because the wackos believe that it is right and just to hurt or kill a multitude of humans to save a chicken.

No, actually, this was on P&T Bull$4!t. They do, in fact, rescue animals, and they do, in fact, euthanize a lot of them.
I just googled "PETA Euthanize" and the first link was to an actual PETA blog post about why they do it. I would put a link, but the pictures made me sick. I'm not joking--if you do it, please be warned. If there is an ounce of animal love in you, you don't want to see those pictures.

Thanked: 317I stand corrected, thanks for the info. Of course, I still have almost no respect for the organization. I look at them the same way I look at pro-life groups who bomb clinics. I agree with the basic idea of treating animals ethically, but the ends simply do NOT justify the means; and they are simply too extreme in their definition of "ethical treatment of animals."
Also, thanks for the warning. My ex-wife worked for the humane society, (still works there for all I know; we don't keep in touch) and I heard enough about mass euthanizations for one life time. I definitely don't want pictures.

Props to Obama: At least he got it with the first slap. It would have been embarrassing if he missed and then started swatting wildly 'will you sit still Goddammit!
The secret service should have shot it out of the air beforehand though.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

PETA is just a personality cult for their leader. They will do anything for attention. They DO NOT care about animals - they care about you believing they care about animals.
They kill most of the animals turned over to them for "rescue", using the logic that it is better to kill them than for the animal to be a pet. They have spread their BS into the Humane Society of the United States. The FBI has them on a watch list for supporting the ELF loons (the ones who burn down homes and buildings under the guise of "protecting the environment" and who threaten the homes and families of those involved in animal testing). One of these bozos was even speaking at a PETA event and praising the use of explosives to make a point.
Two of their nutjobs were put on trial on the East Coast for murdering animals donated by their owners/finders "to go to a good home". They were driving around in a van rigged for killing animals.
They are sadists and are not pro-animal, but are anti-human. IF they are so concerned about suffering, why aren't they in Africa feeding the starving kids? Because you can't do that from the comfort of mommy and daddy's posh suburban home...you might have to actually do work. Instead, they hand out fliers at elementary schools, telling kids their mommy is a murderer.
If you want to help an animal, donate to your local shelter or adopt a pet from there.
I'd love to see a celebrity go medieval on a PETA freak after getting paint thrown on a fur coat...just have some really ****ed off person wail on this self-righteous ass. That would get big hits on YouTube!
As far as I'm concerned: PETA - People Eating Tasty Animals (where's the beef?)

Thanked: 124Yeah, PETA is a useless bunch of fruitcakes. They say that animal ownership is "slavery" and a bunch of other nonsense. They got Eva Mendes to pose nude on a poster and I still don't like them. If any other group had done that I'd feel ethically bound to join them...

Thanked: 137The way I understand it is PETA take in pets and strays, similar to an SPCA, but also take them from other animal shelters. They loudly proclaim how great they are for doing this, but secretlt euthanise most of the ones that they can't/won't find homes for. According to numbers on Wikipedia, about 3/4 of the animals they take in are reclaimed by their owners, then the majority of the remaining 1/4 are euthanised. Only a small minority are actually rehomed. They say that the ones they euthanise are euthanised due to pre-existing medical conditions, however I find it hard to believe that over 4000 animals ALL have medical problems so bad they require euthanisation. They also say some are euthanised due to a lack of space at their facilities. If that's true, then it makes their constant acceptance of more animals rather irresponsible, as it will directly lead to the deaths of animals.
As well as that, the old head of PETA is a diabetic. Now, PETA hates animal use in experimentation, yet this ex-head uses insulin, a treatment initially extracted from the pancreas of animals, and perfected on animals in lab. Perhaps a little hypocritical? [/end rant]
Just my 2c.
