I grew up in the '80s and my first concert was Michael Jackson's Victory Tour in '84. I can't recall much from the actual concert but I do remember hearing the hits and seeing him moonwalk. I had the glove, the sparkly socks, and some parachute pants. Fortunately there are no pictures of those!
I love his early music and think it's sad that all the good he did in his youth will be overlooked because of all the odd and controversial things that happened later in his career.
Rest in peace.

Thanked: 6I was shocked to learn of his death today also. I woke up this evening (I'm a third shifter), turned on the news, and ! While Michael Jackson was one weird bastard, his music was great. I remember in elementary school everyone was dying to get their hands on one of those red leather "Beat It" jackets. It's a sad loss for all of his fans and the music community...as well as TMZ and all those other gossip sites. He's in a better place now. A place where the paparazzi doesn't care, no one butchers your nose, and no one sues you for anything. May he moonwalk in peace!

Thanked: 317You can add to that, "a place where greedy parents don't rob a gifted child of their entire childhood, leaving them as a disturbed and twisted individual whom we will never know the truth about."
Good or bad, he's off to whatever he really deserves. I hope the media was wrong, and either way, I hope he finds peace.

As much as he was very weird and most likely very disturbed. And a lot of this might have been cause because of the way he was treated as a child.
However I quite liked his music and always wondered (almost hoped) that he would make yet another album.
It's a shame that he won't anymore.
I feel for his close ones and relatives.

Wacko Jacko got his Moonwalk from the French mime Marcel Marceau's walking against the wind routine. Marceau in turn got it from various other tap dancers from years before.
Jacko didn't invent it but did make it famous!
RIP
