Thanked: 586Well, Michael Jackson sure as hell weren't no Garth Brooks but he did sell more records that any other recording star in history. There is very little logic that can be applied to what is covered by the media but it seems to have something to do with what people are interested in. This Jackson guy was so popular he couldn't even leave his house without being swamped by fans and paparazzi. If he wanted to go shopping, he had to rent a mall and pay for his own security. I wish they'd check with me before they popularize someone but that just ain't the way it goes.
Then again, I don't watch FOX News. Is it any good?

I do not know if genius is the word but people say that geniuses strange by nature, ie Touched in the head.
Van Gogh, Picasso, Morrison, Hendrix. All geniuses in my book for their individual contributions to society. All tortured souls to boot.
Van Gogh was bi-polar or schizophrenic, Picasso had a thing for phallic symbols and depression, Morrison succumb to his writing and LSD, Hendrix was a phenomenal guitar player who succumbed to the excess of the life that he lead.
The world is a sadder place with out them. We do have the legacies that they left behind.
Jackson is the same. He had demons. He was tortured by them and chased by them since he was four years old in the Jackson 5. The MEDIA said that he did bad things, greedy people said that he did bad things. We DO NOT know that he did bad things.
I hope that where ever he is that he is finally at peace and that he can finally stop running. I hope that what ever God he prayed to takes pity on his soul.

Thanked: 22Interesting that everyone seems to think of him as a genius or a lunatic; I always saw the man as a wasted talent. He was a great song and dance man who never made a film or worked on broadway. He was perhaps the best rythm & blues singer of his genaration, and while "Billie Jean" was interesting it hardly rises to the level of Stevie Wonder's or Ray Charles' best work. It seems he never had the maturity to make the best of his abilities.
How sad

The guy had his issues, no debate there. We'll probably never know what went on with him. The one fact that does remain is he was extremely talented and was clearly a very important figure in musical history. He's dead now...give him a break. He made Thriller. Thriller.

Moonwalker was a film. It did quite well as I recall.
I don't know if the stuff about his personal life is true (and neither does anyone else who's formed an opinion on here) but I can say that I was a huge fan of his music and its sad to see him go so young. Maybe he would have had a major comeback. He was one of the best things about growing up in the 80s. I feel most sorry for his kids.
