Second largest killer of men in the US next to car crashes. How does this differ from a heart attack?

Thanked: 402Hear attacks are pre stages of brain strokes isn't it?
EDIT: or was there just a "t" missing?
The news reported he wasn't feeling well for quite some time before yesterday.
Some tour dates have been cancelled "due to technical problems", but it was rather his health actually.
Who is the guy above?Last edited by 0livia; 06-26-2009 at 01:27 PM.

Thanked: 1262Heart Attacks vs. Sudden Cardiac Arrest - Risks and Treatment Options
The Difference Between a Heart Attack and Sudden Cardiac Arrest
Sudden Cardiac Arrest and Heart Attacks are NOT the same. Both disorders stem from problems with the heart but are different, each with distinct risk factors, treatment options and outcomes.
- A heart attack is caused by a circulation or plumbing problem in the heart.
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest is caused by an electrical problem in the heart.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest occurs more frequently in people who have heart failure and/or have had a heart attack – hearts that are damaged and may pump poorly. Damage to the heart muscle can lead to disturbances of the heart's electrical system. And a malfunction of the heart's electrical system may cause dangerously fast heart rhythms that can lead to Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

Thanked: 1262A few years ago I was walking back from the getting a cup of coffee with a guy at work and he literally stopped mid sentence and dropped to the ground.
Never recovered and was pronounced dead less than an hour later at the hospital.
Cardiac Arrest is scary.

Thanked: 293I'm not a big MJ fan but the guy sold something like a billion records over more than 4 decades. I'm not sure you can make that kind of presumption about whether or not people will remember his music. IMHO, if you play Thriller for somebody in 200 years, they are just as likely to remember it as Fly Me To the Moon -- perhaps even more so because it is more recent.
And for the record, I'm a HUGE Sinatra fan.

Cardiac failure is a generic term used mainly for filling up the cause of death blank on the death certificate, usually before the real cause has been determined. As in Michael's case, where the autopsy had not yet been performed. It just means your heart stopped working.
A heart attack (or myocardial infaction) is when there is damage to the heart from lack of blood supply.
A stroke is when there is damage to the brain due to similar reasons.

I wasn't a fan of MJ's, but I do feel sorry for his family and close friends.
That being said, does anyone else think the media is going a little overboard with their coverage of his passing? Foxnews had 3+ hours of solid coverage yesterday evening.
