(this is not a direct quote but fairly close) "democracy will fail when the general voting population find out that they can vote themselves money from the public trough" i have looked and can not find who this was spoken by...i think that this is a good example of what a lot of our citizens are rapidly becoming

Everyone Has To Pay Taxes Or America Will FailÂ|ÂThe Freedom Factory
This is the inevitable consequence of inadequately constrained democracy, as illustrated by the British historian, Alexander Tytler, in his lifecycle of civilizations. ”A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”

Well you have a choice between the 'tax and spend' democrats and the 'cut taxes and spend even more republicans'. Name your poison ?
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Democracies decay and need to be reset from time to time. World wars seem to be quite good opportunities for reset as long as there remain democratic powers strong enough to win and to perform the post-war reboots.
Too bad I no longer see a power able to secure a successful democratic reboot after the next war. The world is ripe for 1984.

Mind you, we seem to be chugging along just fine without doom.
Many western Europen countries have socialist elements in their government structure, and they seem to manage. So I suspect that the US can manage too.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

That is probably true but until the "better dead than red" generation dies off I don't think it will happen in the USA. There is still a segment of the population here that equates social programs to some sort of evil empire. Missile systems, a-bombs and attacking this or that country is fine but providing health care for the population would result in the moral decay of the society.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
