Our fearless leader...
...Has just won the nobel peace prize. I have no idea what he has done to win this award but never the less...
Obama awarded 2009 Nobel Peace Prize - CNN.com
Has President Barack Hussein Obama done anything to win this award?
I would like to hear from all why or why not President Obama should win this award. I am also curious who takes the Nobel prizes seriously. I for one have not since Gore was awarded a Nobel peace prize.

He has been president of the US for over half a year and hasn't started a war yet!
I mean, if that isn't peace prize material, then what is?
EDIT: I do value nobel prizes and the fields medal a lot.
It's just the peace prize that seems to have become a PR stunt. I lost all respect for the nobel peace prize when they first nominated bono.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

I agree. The other Prizes seem to be granted for those having made serious advances in the field they are given the medal in. The Peace Prize really does just seem to have become a throw away.
For example (and I'm very liberal mind you): Al Gore. Peace Prize winner, and phenomenal energy hog, despite his campaign for the environment.
I rest my case.

I respect and admire our President, it's no secret. I think he's got a hell of a hard job and I think he's trying to do the best he can, without causing more damage to our nation and its reputation, and I agree with his principles and his words.
But Nobel Peace Prize? Nah. It's meaningless, anyway. Arafat won it, apparently for NOT bringing peace to the Middle East. So...why? Maybe because there's no one better? I have no idea.

Well, Israel did NOT yet nuke the Palestinians or Iran, so that has to count for something.

Hello gentlemen.
This is the handywork of one of our less gifted politicians. His name is Torbjørn Jagland, and he is living in his own little bubble.Obama is his messias.
I'm having a great laugh reading critisism from all over the world.
Honestly I think mr.Obama is as embarressed as most norwegians are.

A quote from msnbc.com:
“Humbled” Obama becomes third sitting U.S. president to win but decision stuns observers because he took office less than two weeks before nomination deadline.
His recent decision not to meet with Dalai Lama must make the Nobel prize committee proud of their choice.

Well, I can see the Nobel committees reasoning, but I think their timing is wrong. He's actively tried to reach out and bring a new level of understanding and peace in the middle east and Arab/Muslim community, he's rejoined the UN so that there is a united front against rogue nations (although I admit that most here who oppose Obama also vehemently disagree with the UN on principle), and has done what he can for global disarmament.
That said, he's only served 9 months (or so) of his term, those efforts, while noble (pun intended), have yet to come to fruition - I think these are premature, and would hope that the Nobel Prize committee would make a new rule that says sitting politicians are not eligible for prizes, but only after they leave office, and then it should be a result of their work as a whole.
Just my $0.02.
