I have used just about everything: Newspapers, moss (it is really comfortable, almost like a wet sponge) just go for a swim in the river afterwards if nothing else were at hand, normal TP (always with the texture on the business side) When I was in India I used to splash up water with my left hand, really comfortable, but it could be a challenge when squatting down in a moving train with one hand holding the water mug and the other splashing water where it was needed and everywhere else.

I would say the indian method is probably the best so far, it washed away all the sweat and other crap, so it never got clammy during the day. Unfortunately it is hard to do that with a western toilet, so here it is normally paper

I just wad up a good amount and use it like that. I have never given any thought to the sides being different. However after reading Northpaw's example about the dog crap I am considering the change to wipes. Does anyone know of a brand that is not so wet, when my son was a baby I tried wipes but found them to be too wet, and required drying time, or additional "paper work"
