I think the issue is not so much with Islam, as it is with Islam Extremists. I think every religions has or has had a "Jihad" or incorporates holy war somehow, just extremists twist it from self defense into active attack. Like carrying a gun. I think its safe to say everyone here who carries or just owns a gun wouldn't even think of pointing it at a human unless in mortal danger, but there are people out there who wouldn't think twice. Guns don't pull their own triggers- religious violence doesn't start itself. Stupid people do.

Thanked: 13246Actually No
The excuse of the "Religion of Peace" is always used because they quote his early teachings...
These early teachings before he was in power, said to "live with and accept the Jews and Christians"...
Islamics use these today, as "proof" that it is a peaceful religion...Last edited by gssixgun; 11-06-2009 at 05:48 PM.

To your question: Yes I think that some of the Islamists work VERY hard on establishing peace.
Unfortunately for some of us, their understanding of peace is different from how we understand it.
I.e. if peace can only happen after a Holy war is over, which can only be over when non-Islamic population is converted, eliminated or expatriated (in a specific region or globally), I am not very enthusiastic about striving for it.
And that's my issue with Islam that I do not have with other religions.

BTW for full discloser I am a devout Athiest...
I think Religion in general is one of the most dangerous forces in play on the planet and has been since the first weak hunter became a Shaman...

I disagree with religion as we've been talking about it, but what about personal religion? Something that helps an individual guide their own life, rather than trying to impose it on others? I know that can go wrong, but does it always?

Thanked: 13246Ahhhhh
Name one...
The true problem with religion in general is it separates people, it dehumanizes those that don't believe the same as you...
"My God is better then your God" has killed Billions...
It also gives an excuse to take...
But this thread is about Islam not Religion so I will back it down a notch...
Islam is just a perfect example of what can go wrong with Religious PowerLast edited by gssixgun; 11-06-2009 at 05:58 PM.

Thanked: 431First off, it is extremely disturbing that anyone would follow the teachings of a scumbag who had 'wives' as young as 8 or 9 years old, the only reason to follow a guy like that is to catch him and bash his skull in after he is torchered for being a child molesting dirtbag. And further disturbing is that in countries where Islam is the rule, they can still 'buy' and 'sell' their daughters and the 'husbands' (sleezebags) of course aren't supposed to 'touch' them until they are 'of age', and it is just sort of ignored and a blind eye is turned to it. And there is also an extreme silence not total but an extreme quietness from the Muslim community when it comes to denouncing the terroristic acts of the 'extremists', no doubt because the Muslim community in general knows that the extremists have no problem with killing anyone who is against them, many of these people just live in fear their entire lives. And it is on it's way to taking over Europe and the UK and it is growing in America.
