Looks a lot like a big Iphone. Don't get me wrong, I like my Iphone. If it were the size of the Ipad it loses the one thing I like about it. Size. The Ipad is a slick little device, but I don't see it as a technical revolution.

Thanked: 10Flash is the deal breaker for me. Apparently there is some talk that it might support flash, but a lot of talk that it doesn't.
We'll see.

Thanked: 234It looks interesting, I'm keen to see more.
I'm fairly certain it's going to be walking off the shelves.

Well, good news then, it's not supposed to be a technical revolution, it's a "magical revolutionary device at an unbelievable price"
I think it may actually fare rather well, this is america, and everybody knows that the way to make an iphone better is to make it bigger
Next generation will run on v6, I personally would hold off for the 8-cylinder breakthrough.

That would be great if it happened. Alas, I suspect Jobs would rather die than support Flash. As soon as Flash is enabled on it, you can wave bye-bye to most of the traffic to the iTunes apps store. For Apple, the strength of the iPhone/iPad ain't the hardware, it's the fact that everyone, but everyone, must buy apps from the iTunes store, and for every app sold Apple gets a lovely royalty.
The minute you enable Flash, you'll get apps from anywhere being able to be run on it. The whole vertical/iTunes store would be circumventable.
I heard a rumour last year that Adobe had persuaded chip manufacturers to hard code Flash at the chip level.... that would make it impossible for Jobs to repel. But it seems like it was never borne out, just another rumour.

Thanked: 10Apple made a decision not to support flash and java on the Itouch, but the usefulness of the pad as an internet media tablet is crippled by its omission.
I think the flawed thinking was in making it a big ipod rather than making it a bridge between ipods and notebooks.
The funny thing that nobody is really talking about is that the processor in the pad is made by apple. This is a first, and probably the biggest "breakthrough" for the device. Nothing that will get me out to the apple store though.

This is an interesting product. It reminds me of the Visor Phone before smart phones came along. I remember looking at the iPhones a few years ago and thinking that it was almost the product it was trying to be. This iPad is clearly closer to what it will become. I'm pretty sure in a few years when it has developed itself more and I can get the fourth generation second hand for $100 I'll own one myself.

I've been planning about giving up my long time friendship with Nokia phones and buy iPhone instead. But what the f***? It doesn't have the FM radio and the forced marriage with tele operator just sucks too much.
iPad looks like a nice toy, but i do not believe it could replace laptops. That's why it is not for me.'That is what i do. I drink and i know things'

Thanked: 20flash is, I agree a bit of a killer for this one, but even old Steve has proven that people will pay for what they want! sure there are a lot of free flash games, but most of them suck, you have to wade through ads, I think that people would still pay for apps for the Pad, maybe not the timekillers to the extent of the iPhone, but I'm sure there will be many, and Apple has proven that with the App store you have a bit of a guarantee that the app works.
As for usefulness? its less powerful than a netbook, bigger than an e-reader, it just doesn't compare well to anything else.
I agree with Scott Adams (the dilbert guy) this one was done by committee.
On another note, Amazon is now having grief with at least one publisher in regards to pricing, maybe other things. It will be interesting to see the fallout on this one. Steve still doesn't believe people read, so looks like we may have a rather odd industry shake up.
