As for the iPad: might buy one for the heck of it. Would like a USB port though.

Really looking forward to the applications that developers will write. Can imagine it being excellent in the doctor's office. Bring up a patient's x-ray and zoom in on the hip OA, or scroll through the 190 images that make up an MRI. A couple quick taps and an RX refill is faxed to the pharmacy. New patient comes into the office with his entire history on his iPhone and he syncs it to the doc's iPad through bluetooth and everything is imported, including x-rays.

Not a big fan of the Fingerworks technology they bought. I once owned a keyboard by Fingerworks and really really did not like it. I need tactile feedback - the clickier the better.
Heh if my doctor started using one of these and syncing through bluetooth I would find a new doctor, I prefer my medical data to stay MY medical data between ME and my practitioners of medicine.

Do you mean you would worry that someone could snoop the bluetooth and steal your data? Yeah, obviously there would have to be encryption, I just left that assumed. I just don't know that much about security through bluetooth. Or did you think I meant that he could simply steal your data off your iPhone without you knowing it?

Otherwise it fits your model I think: YOUR medical data is on your iPhone and could be transmitted to YOUR practitioners of medicine, and no one else without YOUR permission. (not yelling in caps, just playing along).

Howdy, and thanks for joining in.

I unfortunately do know about security enough to know i won't trust even encryption with certain data. The simple fact is encryptio is fallable, and to be honest i just wouldn't keep my medical data on my phone

That's curious because I imagine most of your life is stored on a computer some place, encrypted. That's just how the world of data works now.

Think I am going to buy one. I think it will be great for short trips and to just play around with.

I hung around here Friday until my 64GB WiFi + 3G iPad was delivered. Then we headed for Louisville--with the wife driving and me "navigating," surfing the net, checking and responding to email, scoping out the weather maps, and otherwise playing. This is sweet. Sure, there may be some things they could've, and probably will do better, but I believe it's the start of a new paradigm in personal computing.

FWIW, I've used PCs, Unix, and Macs since the mid-80s, and run a 25 server, multi-thousand user Windows enterprise today--just for perspective.

It's something I wouldn't be *that* surprised if I bought during my up coming juant to the states. However, a 3 month period with out work is already fairly expensive so I hope I remember that when I go shopping!

I'm pretty sure in a few years when it has developed itself more and I can get the fourth generation second hand for $100 I'll own one myself.
Probably won't ever get that cheap.

As for me...I'd rather get a new laptop.....wait....I DID!!!!
