Thanked: 1185It boils down to national identity, despite our diversity as a country there used to be a commonality, a national character, a national ethos, things we all believed in. Sadly though, we have no national identity left and any attempt to get it back typically gets you branded as a racist and just isn't very PC. If that sounds like hyperbole, consider the fact that you can no longer say Merry Christmas (you might offend someone). it's not Easter, its spring holiday, we've quit teaching our kids that capitalism is better than communism, their world is one of moral relativism where nothing is better than anything else and everyone gets a trophy (nay is entitled to a trophy) just for showing up. The homeless crack head and the nobel laureat are of equal value. The world should be a place where everyone is entitled to not only the same opportunity but the same outcome. Of course my GED and $7 an hour job entitle me to a $500,000 house. That's in the constitution ain't it?

I am assuming World = US in these statements. Because most of these do not apply to the rest of the world.
I think our national identity is "I'll take whats mine and then take whats yours too!"
You can say whatever you want in this country. That is what is so great about it.If that sounds like hyperbole, consider the fact that you can no longer say Merry Christmas (you might offend someone).
Well yeah. But if you are a Christian I am guessing Easter is more important.it's not Easter, its spring holiday,
I do not remember being taught that capitalism was better than any ism in the 80s. I remember being though about the various systems with a bias towards capitalism though.we've quit teaching our kids that capitalism is better than communism,
I will agree with this when it comes to kids in this country. Unfortunately for them when you grow up everyone you meet is trying to screw you over.their world is one of moral relativism where nothing is better than anything else and everyone gets a trophy (nay is entitled to a trophy) just for showing up.
Sometimes they are the same thingThe homeless crack head and the nobel laureat are of equal value.I guess i agree they are of equal value as human beings. As to their contributions to society, I would need a spreadsheet.
Not really. Income inequality in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaThe world should be a place where everyone is entitled to not only the same opportunity but the same outcome.
You can thank predatory lending for that. Those people should have never qualified for a loan. A handful of people/companies made a ton of money off it though.Of course my GED and $7 an hour job entitle me to a $500,000 house.
Hmm.. Good question. Let me get back to you on that. That's in the constitution ain't it?

This is the U.S. of A. and I make up my own language. I'll sue and send to jail anybody who uses it without paying me the fees!
Now you all owe me a dollar for the translation I just did for you.

What were they? What did people believe in? That Black people should have to come in through the back door and be out of town by sundown? That women should shut up and take their licks? That children were a cheap source of hard labor, never mind the black lung or the missing fingers?
What, exactly, was the National Ethos back in the glory days?
Again, the national identity lamented here, what was it? The only people I've seen saying that things used to be better are old white men--and for guys like that, yeah. It might have been better. But for everyone else, I reckon it was so much worse that giving up the right to treat other people like animals isn't much of a loss.Sadly though, we have no national identity left and any attempt to get it back typically gets you branded as a racist and just isn't very PC.
I call BS. This is Fox news culture war nonsense, people say Merry Christmas all the time and no one goes to jail. If, however, you are referring to public displays of religious celebration, well...Wall of separation, and all that. Blame the founding fathers, they're the ones who thought it was a good idea to keep the magic dad in the sky out of the courthouse. If that sounds like hyperbole, consider the fact that you can no longer say Merry Christmas (you might offend someone).

Good. Zombies are scary.
It's not. Case in point: The USA, the great bastion of capitalism, is full of broke, desperate people. The Soviet Union, the great bastion of "Communism" (not really, but anyway) was full of broke deperate people. Sounds even to me.we've quit teaching our kids that capitalism is better than communism,
Why not? Sometimes just showing up is the hardest part.their world is one of moral relativism where nothing is better than anything else and everyone gets a trophy (nay is entitled to a trophy) just for showing up.
Hello, non-sequiter. Or is that straw man? Whtever the case, have you ever considered that, instead of lamenting the past, you could embrace change? The new world comes every day--and every day the past gets further away. New things can be fun, and are in many ways better than the old...give them a chance. Heck, try learning a little Spanish, learning a second language is a great way to keep your brain agile, and it opens up your head in a great way.The homeless crack head and the nobel laureat are of equal value. The world should be a place where everyone is entitled to not only the same opportunity but the same outcome. Of course my GED and $7 an hour job entitle me to a $500,000 house. That's in the constitution ain't it?
