I went the opposite way several years ago, getting rid of the cell phone for a landline.
Why?
I save money on:
- cheaper monthly plan
- cheaper phone
- cheaper phone maintenance
- zero dropped calls
- zero vehicles crashed
I save time on:
- not looking for chargers, cases, and millions of other accessories
- not being at the beck and call of the equivalent of a bell on my neck with a string tied to everyone who has my phone number
- not getting ringtones stuck in my head
- not having to figure out how to use my phone everytime I want to access some lame feature that does nothing and wastes everyone's time
- not having to compare my gadgetry to everyone else's, explaining how I got such a great deal on mine (my $500 phone that looks like a computer and controls my life was free! after I agreed to sell my soul to the phone company)
- not having to call up and argue with the nameless, monotone cell phone service provider representatives every month because of extra charges on my latest bill or changes made to services, features, plans, etc - actually I think this might be the straw that broke this camel's back with the cell phones. Every company sucks, I know you want to tell me your company has been great to you and I'm happy for you but trust me they all suck
Cell phones are unreliable, overpriced, cheap, plastic toys - companies that sell them know this and treat their customers as children who constantly want to brag to their friends about how special their new toys are. Grownups use landlines.
Having said all that, I'm glad y'all are happy, but I'm even happier that I'm happy. So as long as we're all happy it's all goodLast edited by hoglahoo; 05-03-2012 at 05:50 PM.

I have indeed taken a different approach from yours and simply used self control to solve most of those problems you were having
Yes, I know that's not for everybody.
Also, since you never drop a call I should call you sometime, I can waste a lot of our time, which I've proven
I could go for about an hour on the ringtones getting stuck in your head - you're actually not supposed to stick them in your head, but then you'd have to figure out the useless feature of your phone for their intended use...
BTW you forgot to tell us which model is your landline phone, what features does it have, as well as how are you using it all by yourself without a company

Thanked: 8842 cell phones. One personal and one from work. I HATE CELL PHONES and REFUSE to text.
Cell reception where I live is iffy. Phones are usable but just barely. Been bitching at SW BELL/AT&T/CINGULAR/AT&T for 15 years about it. Still getting the old, "SoSoory Mr P, we're working on that as we speak." BS
Everybody that deals with me at work has finally figured out I will not return their stupid text messages. I usually call them back and ask "WTF do/did you want?"
Landline is from Charter. $4.99 month plus a few featherlegged taxes. All the bells and whistles and unlimited long distance in the CONUS.
I'd get rid of phones completely if I could.
