Thanked: 235In Bangkok land lines are only used to connect the internet box thingy to the wall. As I'm sure you can guess, my wife takes care of the computer stuff.

We've kept our landline, even though all 5 of us have cell phones. Cell phone reception inside our house sucks. Also, thanks to past hurricane-generated storms, we've had situations in which we've lost electricity AND cellphone service--but the landline was still up and running.

I didn't read all of the posts, but I must say I still think a land line is a must, especially if you have kids. The only reason I keep the pesky thing is for 911. I'm not sure how it works in other states, but here in CA, if you dial 911 from your cel, it is directed to CHP. Then you must give your location, and the call is redirected. This is fine, if you're not about to croak, but if you need help fast, you're screwed! Also, will your kids be able to give an accurate address or location if they have to dial 911? He or She will probably be scared and panicking, a landline will give an accurate address even if the phone is hung-up. A pretty good argument for a landline IMHO.

Got no landline AND our cell phones don't really work inside the house. Nice and quiet 'round here.

Thanked: 220Most people in my area haven't had landlines for years, including me. It costs twice as much as a cell phone, and I'm never home to use it anyway. Not sure about other places, but the cell service is exceptional here.

Thanked: 1185Not only do I still have a land line, I DON"T OWN A CELL PHONE! Not sure I can even put my finger on why but I just don't have much use for either. People just don't seem to sit and talk the old fashioned way anymore. As much as all the modern gadgetry has brought to our lives, I think it's taken away far more, maybe it's just me, huh?

We have the cheapest landline possible, only for the buzzer on our apartment. This is actually the first time we've had one in many years. I use the mobile for everything and i can't even remember the landline's number.
