If Corporations cheat it's because they are under tremendous pressure to do so. 35% of their profits are stolen by a government that is bent on redistributing wealth. The highest corporate taxes in the industrialized world.

Thanked: 235Over here you can't buy alcahol from a supermarket until after about 5pm on any weekday. Their reasoning is that it makes it harder for the school children to come in and buy their supply of grog for the night. It just means that the school kiddies and us adults have to wait until after 5. Doesn't worry me much though. I rarely drink any more.

Oh yes redistributing wealth. Funny how when it's money going only one way from rich to the masses it's redistributing wealth but when it's money going from poor to the rich that's just good business.
Now I wouldn't want those outside this country to be fooled by that old trick. Very few in the U.S pay according to what the initial tax rates are. In this country the tax codes are stuffed with exemptions and the more you make the less you pay so most corporations pay a fraction of that nominal rate. But if you work at Walmart you gonna pay every cent of the tax rates.

There is a big difference. When the money goes from the producer to the consumer, the consumers are buying a product. They get something for their money. The producer MADE the product. He created wealth.
When it goes the other way the money is taken without the person's consent and just handed to the recipient. No wealth is created, just consumed.
The second half of your statement is also false. Illegal aliens can claim tax credits and often do. They wind up getting money back that they never paid in.
As I said before, right now 47% of the country pay NO federal income tax.Last edited by Crotalus; 06-07-2012 at 02:01 PM.

The USA I have been visiting for many years have always struck me as a fine place to live.
Reading about the same nation here in the conversation forums, the impression I'm left with is that my assumptions were wrong, and that it really is a banana republic without any hope of ever rising to her inhabitants aspirations of greatness.
That, or there are some grumpy old men in here

It's probably a combination of both.

I'm grumpy. No question about it.
Our country was founded on freedom. We lose some of the freedom daily and will only keep what we have by fighting back.

Thanked: 1371I don't understand the anger people have toward corporations, corporate boards, or exectutives.
Sure there are some bad ones out there, but I could show you that within any group of people.
It's easy to talk about the "evil corporation" - which is a faceless entity. Of course, corporations are made up of people. Most of those people are not evil.
Even the "faceless" corporations, in my experience, are good citizens of their communities and do a lot to help out.
Look at Tony Hsieh, and zappos.com, and what they're doing for Las Vegas. That is a large example, but it is not an isolated thing.
Letting the few bad eggs in corporate America dictate how you view them all is no different than letting the few leeches that get government assistance establish your view of everyone that's on government assistance.
I'd wager that in both cases, if you really look hard you'll find that it's a small percentage that give the rest a bad name.

I spent 30 years as a Special Agent for Immigration so tell me what Illegal Aliens do. But let me tell you. They all claim 10+ dependents for withholding and they file no taxes and get no credits for the most part. yes an exception now and then which certain segments of the media blow out of proportion.
You know what happens in Govt when they privatize? Some company comes in and claims huge savings for the govt based on phony stats which assume the person will work 30 years and then retire. So the Govt fires all the Govt employees who earn decent wages and benefits and the private outfit pays little, has no benefits, charges the Govt way more than what they were paying the employees over the short term meaning 20 years and the fat cat who owns the private outfit and/or investors pocket the money. Think that's not redistribution of wealth? No, it's good business.
