"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
    attributed to Benjamin Franklin.

maybe some won't see it as being applicable to this situation, or agree with it.. but i think that those who give up essential liberties to obtain temporary safety in the end will not /have/ liberty or safety, whether or not they deserve it.
maybe i'm way off base here, as i said maybe not applicable to this situation.. just food for thought.

As with all things, a balance is needed. Police helicopters fly over the city to keep an eye on traffic problems, to deal with missing persons reports, keep an eye on things like fires and other things that have an impact on traffic etc.

All legitimate reasons that have nothing to do directly with safety or security, and everything with keeping infrastructure going and solving / preventing oodles of problems. Whether the choppers are manned or not is not really relevant to the issue at hand.

You could argue that you feel the advantages do not outweigh your perceived loss of privacy.
However, it is simply a majority thing. If the voting population considers them to be an advantage, then you lose that battle. If they don't, you win. All things considered, grounding choppers and drones will cause problems that make it preferable by the majority to have them in the air. If they are going to be in the air, drones are cheaper than manned choppers.

I've got to say the Patriot Act is spooky. Not too long ago we had a local cop of a small town to really take the terrorist bit a too far. He was one of those guys who probably had been picked on in school growing up and got the mindset "I'll show them". If an individual is identified as a terrorist, they literally have no rights at all. He would perform unjust searches without warrants in auto's and even homes. Fortunately he picked on the wrong person (daughter of a State Highway Patrolman) and he's in prison...federal. Problem was it took that "wrong person" for him to pick on.

There is a long time issue with small town cops using their authority to profile people in hopes of finding some big drug dealer carrying a lot of cash which they keep. Many towns use this to finance their Police Depts. There is a famous video used in Police Training of a town constable in Texas who used to do this. He would profile drug dealers and pull them over himself and keep everything and let them go. The State Police warned him not to do it for his own safety. He didn't listen to them and one day picked the wrong guys to pull over and wound up dead. It was all caught on his dash camera. The two guys were spanish speakers and you can clearly here them say to each other in spanish "you get his feet and I'll get his gun".

I don't believe that any of us got to vote on aerial surveillance, manned or not. The government is just doing it.

I will take care of the security of my property, thank you.

I have no problems with drones. They already have sats above us that can read your drivers license. I'm not doing anything wrong. I don't believe my rights are violated. Could they watch me? Sure. Am I interesting? No.
Are you and should you be more concerned with computer/phone monitoring???

Live with it,all this paranoia is killing all the fun in life, you are not being singled out and watched by anyone, the Helicopters and drones and Sats are not targeting your house.
Live within the law of the land such as it is,we all have it pretty darn good, the zimmermans of the world are not going to shoot you,the feds are not going to come take your guns away, just chill.
