Thanked: 6300 million population, gangs, poverty, lack of education.......how many gang bangers do you have in Finland how are poor, uneducated, nothing to lose, minority 19 year old's? Apples and oranges. We have lots of gun control! In a lot of areas there are few people with home defense that rely on Police. they get robbed, raped, murdered every day. When the bad guys come for me, they better prey I am not able to reach the tool that will even the playing field or give me the advantage. I count on no one but myself to ensure the safety and well being of my family. I hope no one ever has to deal with the scenarios we have all thought up in this forum, but if they do occur the ones with semi automatic, full auto, shot guns, bolt action, what ever will definitely, with out a doubt, have a much higher chance of survival for them and their families.

Thanked: 6What is to be fixed? People need to learn gun safety, how to calm down, and not go on rampages when they lose their job? You can not fix a person who is nuts. Bad things happen, and they will always happen. Be prepared or don't.
You have a savings account for rainy days, you make sure you gas tank is full before a long drive through the desert, You buy house insurance in case it burns down. You own a firearm in case you need to defend yourself, go hunting for food, or the Zombie apocalypse occurs or coarse. We all practice (play) with them, so we are prepared to use it for Defense or hunting etc..If you don't want one for any of the many reasons people want one, I will not tell you that you have to have one. So please do not tell me I can't have one because you are not responsible enough, educated enough, or whatever to own one for yourself.

Thanked: 13249Exactly the timing, it was right after the 1986 Miami FBI shootout that many Dept's began switching faster, but the turnover began earlier in the 80's I remember the older guys in Denver complaining that they wanted to still carry their 357's and did not want the new 9mm... They liked the juice behind the .357's of course they were a bit better with their weapons too...
A detecive friend once showed me at the range just how fast he really was with a rolling reload on his Python, and just how well he could handle it, I doubt many could match his skill...

Thanked: 13249Actually it is against multiple laws for them to have guns
this is what we are trying to point out...
ie; The old addage "When you Outlaw guns only Outlaws will have guns" the very strict gun laws we have already in place, do not work, because they are not enforced so more gun laws will only disarm lawful owners...
As to the Aurora shooter he was a lawful gun owner,,, MAYBE,,, we dont actually know that for sure yet... He might very well have been illegal on e and f by his own admission.. We don't have all the real facts and maybe never will
BTW here ia a link to the BATF Gun Purchase Form
See #11 a-l
in case you have no clue what the US Federal Requirements are
http://www.atf.gov/forms/download/atf-f-4473-1.pdf
These requirements can be tightened by State law and sometimes even County law and City ordinanceLast edited by gssixgun; 07-26-2012 at 06:22 PM.

In practice we have no such social problems in Finland. Or at least they are very rare. I can understand your point and that is why i'm not even to imagine what should you do about it. I have no idea and sadly i guess that there is no single person in a world who could tell the foolproof way to reduce your violence made with guns.
I'm sad if there's really such areas in a western world where people have to live in fear. It would be impossible to imagine such things happening here.
Shortly, and off topic, violence is rare here, but of those i know, most typical violence is family violence or between friends. And usually there's alcohol included. Weapons do not help but make it worse. This is just what happens here, i'm not try to offend anyone and i respect anyone's opinions.
And before judging me to some anti-gun person i need to say that i am a gun owner myself, although i do not store them at home. Being in a military for almost 25 years now (and 7 to go, i'm counting days) i can say that i know little something about guns and how to deal with them. I've been on three deployments.
My wife works as a nurse at the children's psychiatric hospital and she is a member in a team with police where they have to go into peoples homes every now and then to get those suffering kids to safe. She has seen things that i wouldn't have guts to see.Last edited by Sailor; 07-26-2012 at 06:37 PM.

Then enforcement of said laws are, in lack of a better word, somewhat underwhelming...
I know that old addage by heart now, spending time here kinda ensures that
The fault of that addage is obvious though.
If only mad gang-bangers and psyco's (illegal guns) where the reason for all the murders in those often repeated stats we all throw around, then you'd be completely right.
But that is not the case.
The fact is that a lot of accidents and mishaps are reported each year, both here and over there.
For those alone, a reduction of the armed portion of any society is a most splendid idea. You know, to me that is
Another reason to abandon guns are of course to reduce those killings where one looses their head and does something they will spend the rest of their lives regretting behind bars.
Will that stop killing? most certainly not.
Hovewer, will it reduce it quite noticeably? Yes, I do think so.
You all should try it out, imagine if we libtards are actually right?
Now lets all hold hands and sing Kumbaya guysLast edited by Birnando; 07-26-2012 at 06:21 PM. Reason: Added a song to lighten the mood

Thanked: 13249Most gun owners agree that there should be laws, and actually have no problem with most of them, the problem we have is that everytime some "Mental Moron" uses one badly, the outcry for more laws is thrown out there... We push back by saying you didn't enforce the existing laws, why do you want more ...
Then it dies down and everyone forgets on both sides of the fence...
The worst part of this last incident is that he might very well get away with a Diminished Capacity verdict, Colorado is a pretty tough on crime state and has, and uses the Death Penalty so perhaps not... time will tellLast edited by gssixgun; 07-26-2012 at 06:40 PM.
