death has DECREASED, check the CRIME RATE not the absolute crime figure.
I am immigrating to the USA, not because it is a desirable place to live though, I would 100% rather stay in the UK if it was practicle.
I would rather be attacked with a non ballistic weapon, martial arts training says I would have a much better chance than if I got shot.

You wake up tomorrow morning and every firearm in the U.S is gone (yes Obama was busy last night like an anti Santa Claus) so what will be the effect in this country? Will Mexico suddenly invade us? Will you hear about mass murders where some guy used a knife to kill 30 people? Will the Elk and Deer rejoice? Will the crime stats go up or down? Will the sale of Louisville Sluggers increase causing a massive employment increase that brings the country out of recession?

    So what will happen?
Black market firearms sales will go through the roof.

Welcome, you will be joining the ranks of millions that have recently come before you and the ancestors of most of us born here. Many of them would have rather stayed home, but ended up staying here and are happy. It is really not a dangerous place as portrayed in the media. I have worked for more than 30 years in the reputed dangerous areas of a major US city without personally experiencing violence. Most US LEOs retire never having fired their issued firearms at anyone. Persons with socially appropriate behavior rarely have a problem, but should keep aware of their surroundings and avoid any drug and gang activity that might possibly be observed.

SRH - If this what you were taught in MA training, you were taught wrong. Take it from me, a certified NRA and combatives instructor with 25 years of experience in the martial arts, mostly in Filipino edged weapon styles: At close quarters a blade is far more daunting to deal with, devastating and deadly than a handgun. If you want to experience that for yourself, seek out something like Escrima, Kali, AMOK! or FAST Defense in your area...

I think you should do what your heart tells you, and stay in the UK. It'll be better for everyone involved, especially you!

You have vested interests, if you genuinely believe what you said you are saying everyone should down their guns and carry knives instead . I am trained in muay thai and judo, I'd rather encounter a blade than a gun.

Plus you wouldn't even get at close range to try and defend yourself if a gun was involved.

I'm astounded at how you think a blade is more deadly than a gun, wow.

Anyway, I'm done discussing, have fun.

My only interest is in educating people as to the actual danger of edged weapons, and the limitations of firearms. It's not a question of dropping one in favor of the other, but a matter of being pragmatic about the offensive and defensive capabilities and limitations with either type of weapon at various distances.

According to our FBI's statistics, 85% of gunfights occur within 21 feet - 70% of those at arm's length or so - thus, it's wise to train realistically for encounters within those distances. You obviously have never faced a blade or a gun in a realistic training setting, let alone for real, otherwise I am sure that you would not be spouting this nonsense today. In view of which, excellent choice on your part to end the discussion.

So you are saying that (1) Americans do not respect the law; and (2) America is incapable of policing its laws.

No wonder you guys want guns.

Thomas Jefferson wrote something in the Declaration of Independence about how historically people are long suffering and mostly reluctant to change their governments until something(s) occurs that is/are completely intollerable. The founders of this country were, after all, law breakers guilty of treason.

Yes I am certain, and proud to say that if this country ever attempted to remove our best means for individual self-defense, alot, and hopefully all of us, would follow in our founding fathers footsteps.

BTW, what happened here? Queensland has a thriving blackmarket for handguns and is awash with over 40,000 weapons | The Courier-Mail
