this really is a circular debate. There is the "we want gun's no matter what" side, and the "we don't want gun's because they can be used to kill" side. I think it must be about time everyone agreed that both parties are correct, and both parties are wrong. Guns make killing easier, the person pulling the trigger is the killer. With no guns there would be no gun crime, with fewer gun's there would be less gun crime. While gun's are available, people will have them. If they are illegal many fewer people will have them. I believe this would reduce crime, others do not.
I think it's been an interesting discussion definitely.

Let me know when you find your perfect world. The world where everyone is honest and works hard for what is rightly theirs. The world where no steals from others to pay for their dope habits, etc etc.

I'll join you for a drink sans my pistolas.

In the meantime, I'll continue along as I have because I'm sad to say, your deal ain't gonna happen in our lifetimes.

The thing is there would not be less gun crime, its called gun CRIME for a reason, its not law abiding citizens that cause the problem its criminals. All you would do by making it illegal for people to have firearms is take that away from the people that follow the law plain and simple. There is no debate just people scared of what they don't know want that which scares them gone.

Yes, if all guns magically disappeared then gun violence would cease to exist.
Problem is that other forms of violent crimes would increase.
See also, Rwandan genocide. Hundreds of thousands killed and raped by their fellow citizens in under 4 months. Guns were used by some militias but machetes were the main weapon of choice.

I remember the old sitcom "All in the Family", in it the main character is debating with his daughter about gun control and murder, finally the old guy asks her, "Would it make you feel any better if they were pushed out windows?". The point being that human nature is what it is, life is precious, be prepared.

Controlled substances are not restricted in the least by prohibition. All it does is drive the price up, thereby increasing the crime to feed the habit, and fill our jails.

Regulating the behavior of people has never worked and it never will.

If you think that, you seriously need to take a look around you. Of course controlled substances have restricted access. There is less of them available to EVERYONE. I hear people talking openly about how hard it is to get drugs these days, proving my point.
Wullie, if I find the perfect world, I will give you the directions
