Oh I should also mention that at least 35 of the blackmarket handguns were from a police station. Criminals stole the whole damn safe and broke into it at another location. The safe was found emptied.

You've demonstrated you're own ignorance and immaturity very well with most of what you have said over these many pages. I really must say that I do enjoy reading your posts, because I have never laughed so hard in all my life. Your lack of life experience is just shining through in all your statements, and I see a lot of what I was like at that very same age in you...Needless to say, I'm ashamed to admit it. Thankfully though, at your age I had already had many years of experience in the proper use of firearms. So at least I wasn't dumb in that department like yourself.

What can I say...AMEN BROTHER! And I'm not even American. Or christian for that matter.

I am dumbfounded by the lack of a willingness to accept the blatently obvious. Having guns legalized means more people die at the hands of guns. Call me what you want but I understand how to interpret stats.

I love the maturity ... "you don't agree with my view THEREFORE you're ignorant, immature, and lack life experience" NICE. Were the stats and figures I gave immature too?

Well, I'll give points for tenacity but at this point after about 70 pages do you really think there is any point in carrying on? There are two sides here with diametrically opposed view points and neither wants to even consider the others thoughts. It could go 700 pages and nothing would change on either side. Both are intent on ,if not winning the debate, at least not losing ground. Interesting thread though, much the same as watching a train wreck in slow motion, so predictable.

I consider my knife a deadly weapon, and would never draw it on another person unless justified and prepared to use deadly force. In 20 years, that has only happened twice. Luckily for everyone, the attackers in those incidents broke off and escaped once they caught a clue that I was ready to kill them.

Check out these facts on knife killings in China: School attacks in China (2010

Probably one of the few countries where it is close to impossible for a civilian to obtain a firearm. Still, 21 dead in these attacks, most of them small children, and 90 injured.

In your own country 2007 and 2008, school shootings in Jokela and Kauhajoki left 19 dead and many others injured. Both committed by psychos using only .22 cal pistols!

With the psychos who set out to do this kind of thing, I think the weapon is always secondary to their intent to kill. They will find a way, and will always do the most damage that they can.
I think that we perfectly agree that no amount of laws or guns would stop maniacs. They will find their way, today and in the future too. Although all the wackos like Breivik, Auvinen & co did kill a lot of innocent people still the number of their victims is like a drop in an ocean if you compare the victims caused by ordinary people.

I do not know but i would imagine that in Iceland less people die in violent crimes than in Finland. My question would then be that what makes our culture different, maybe to find out the answer (if such even exists) I do not know if it is about the culture at all but there must be some reason, imho.
Now this thread wasn't about comparing Iceland/Finnish violence, but i hope you understand what i mean. If you are one of those who think you might have a problem, then you should focus on finding a reason and if there's something to do about it.

I'm not on either side of the fence. I can understand the views on both sides. I think you are turning circles without focusing the main question if you have a problem or not.

Your comment on what your grandfather said about knife fighting and cutting rather than killing with them in a knife fight I have heard 40 years ago here. We have a very large Finnish population in our city and an older policeman said the same thing happened here in the Finnish community in the old days. You hear very very little about it now. I guess it must have been a cultural thing that has died out.

Mr off topic #1 aka me again.
That is true. As far as i know about old tradition, killing was never a purpose because it only took you to jail. One cut was enough to make the opponent stop and then the game was over. Times change, unfortunately.
I was raised to fact that knife is not a tool for stabbing. No matter what you do, stabbing is misuse.
That is why most Finns find finger guards silly and useless, and big rambo knives very unhandy. Length of the blade should not ever exceed the width of your palm.

    Hey fellas,

    Interesting reading.
Sailer, I've enjoyed your perspective quite a bit.

I don't have much of a problem with folks and their guns. Would I love for every gun to disappear? Sure. But the won't...so I wont break into you home, carjack you, rape your wife, etc...you don't shoot me (certainly don't shoot my 6'5" self accidentally while trying to be a hero) and we are all good.

Regarding self defense...I personally would try to get out of the line of fire before anything else. If a gun is pulled within 4' of me (on the EL, for example), provided the right situation, I would probably try to disarm with the knife I carry. But with all the talk of disarming it's so case by case there is no definitive "should or should not do"...so it seems to me it would be harder to argue than it apparently is.

You're welcome. I read it, and made my mind up. I could say the same to you. Just because I don't agree with you it does not mean I am wrong. Not everybody has been supporting legalized firearms it is plain to see that throughout this thread!
