Thanked: 884In the late 60's, there were two girls putting out in my class that had 70 or so kids in it. Nowadays there are probably only two girls in a class that aren't putting out and class sizes are probably 5 times what they were when I was in school.
For our friends in the UK that think that more laws and less guns will make a safer society, I would ask them to investigate Mexico, Central, and S America and their VERY restrictive gun and dope laws. Those laws appear to be working very well I'd say..... NOT!
Last numbers I heard for the running death toll in the border dope war is pretty close to what the US had killed in over 15 years of the SE Asia war games.
I have a number of good friends of Mexican and Salvadoran ancestry that have legally immigrated to the states. I also have "gringo" friends that own property in in and around San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. My American friends will NOT drive down there any more. My Mexican friends just don't go back to visit because it is too damn dangerous.
I live in N TX and the cartels do reach up here. So far the cartel violence in this area has been pretty much directed at each other.
As for the BS about the guns coming from the US, that is a load of crap for the most part (except for what our present regime provided in their FAST AND FURIOUS debacle). I say that because the full auto stuff those guys are using is bought on the underground market or from international arms suppliers willing to sell to anyone with the $$. Those dopers have the $$ to buy about anything their hearts desire and there is some HEAVY stuff running around down there (most of it from the Communist bloc or stolen/purchased from their own armies) that is simply NOT available through normal purchase here in the states.

No corporal punishment. No prayer in school. Education geared to pass the state tests instead of learning the 3 R's. No pledge of allegiance. Touchy feely course curriculum. Passing students that still can't read just to get rid of them. Passing kids on compassionate grounds instead achievement.
In short, the liberals are in control.

Thanked: 56Liberals want better education with less testing. It is liberals that tru to allow education to be that rather than jumping through hoops.this is a quote from a liberal political party website "testing should be reduced to a necessary minimum in order to remove unnecessary pressure on pupils and staff and to reduce the current waste of time and resources on such testing; ". I agree with corperal punishment though, prayer should be reinstated not to enforce religion but to enforce compliance with the rules. Kids don't pledge allegiance to anymore? They do in WA state.

Thanked: 983All I can say is, thank the powers that be you blokes have less guns. I'd hate to imagine the mayhem that would be caused at a football game! The spectator violence is already pretty grim I've heard. And knife crime is a serious problem too by all accounts. I guess if they finally manage to get the crims to stop carrying knives you blokes will have to ban cricket as well. Can't have just anyone owning a cricket bat to bludgeon people with afterall.
I'm a firm believer in having a sense of situational awareness...Goes well with having a gun too.

Thanked: 3228Not that, I meant the sex and drugs bit. As to the other stuff, that has changed too here. I am not too keen on the lack of discipline/respect or the idea of just moving kids along but then I am a Liberal. OTH what do I know, I went to HS to keep out of the rain and still only lasted 1 and 1/2 years.
