Thanked: 458I agree. People can stop smoking weed when they want. When the argument that everyone should be allowed to have everything is made, it's made under the same assumption that a user has plenty of free will, which really isn't the case with drugs like methamphetamine, heroine, crack etc. Even the chinese were well aware of this hundreds and hundreds of years ago when the english foisted millions of pounds of opiates to try to equalize trade....turn them into junkees and sell them stuff.

Re: Legalize Pot... ?
If they can't keep drugs out of closed systems like prisons, why would anyone believe that they could keep them out of an allegedly open and free society?

Re: Legalize Pot... ?
As I'm thinking about this, one other thing occurs to me.
If conservatives really hold getting the government off the people's backs as a cornerstone of their political philosophy, why then wouldn't they support legalization?
Surely the government telling you what you can and cannot do with your own body,in your own home, at the point of a gun is the very embodiment of having the government on your back?Last edited by maddafinga; 11-10-2012 at 05:26 AM.

Hahaha - that was something that bugged me too! But they... the republicans, have a special brand of morality that they need to foster, so they label people who think as clearly as you do on the issue - wait for it - libertarians!! Go form your own party if you want real freedom!!
Sorry if that sounded harsh.David

Thanked: 10Legalize Pot... ?
I've come across many republicans who are fine with legalization. Unfortunately, the obstinate faction of the republican party is just a group bible thumpers who demand WASP cultural hegemony.
I live I'm an ultra-conservative town where the local Christian university has so much sway in the community that they have essentially made my entire county a dry county; they've even gone so far as to buy the legal liquor licenses in the county just so other businesses can't serve liquor. How messed up is that?
