Unfortunately, where I am in the bible belt, the discussion is a taboo in politics here. If a politician even mentions it here, you can kiss you cushy job and pay check goodbye; so they just ignore it all together.

Thanked: 10Legalize Pot... ?
Yeah, I understand (and loathe) that social pressure. Arkansas is pretty conservative too - ESPECIALLY my county - so I was shocked to see it on the ballot....also why I just had to vote for it - we need to set a precedent for other southern states and combat this ridiculous slippery slope argument that everyone spews each time the issue is brought up.

Yes, for some reason here in the south, legalizing pot is ranked just above starting a zombie apocalypse.

Thanked: 1587I lived in Canberra (capital of Australia) for 4 years while I studied. Canberra has, for a long time now and certainly while I lived there, "decriminalised" marijuana use and I believe you can grow a few plants in the backyard without worrying about being busted. The key phrase was/is "personal use". Nothing untoward has happened to Canberra over the intervening years since decriminalisation as far as I can tell. In fact, you may well argue that the general population, to help them cope with having to share their city with the morons we call our politicians, should all be required to do mandatory bucket bongs on a daily basis. Or better yet, get the politicians to do bucket bongs on a daily basis - Parliament question time would make far more interesting viewing.... "Mr Speaker, I move the House order 15 pepperoni, 12 fire eaters, and 10 Hawaiian pizzas, and 30 garlic breads"
Personally I have no issue with people using pot - I used to have a joint occasionally and quite enjoyed it when I was younger - we used it like alcohol, but less frequently. However, the last time I ever smoked pot (going on 15 years ago now) it was some hydroponic devil-weed that put me right off forever.

Yeah, if you like it, then that's your bag. Just makes me sleepy and hungry; don't need to pay for that, I'm like that 24/7 anyway

Maybe I'm the odd man out, but I always feel especially energized, motivated, and creative when I partake - that's right y'all present tense...maybe that's because I'm still a youngin'!
As with everything in the world, moderation, of course, is key.

Keep your eye on the news. You'll see more like this. Then ask yourself if there is too much money in it.
St. John’s University's so-called “Dean of Mean,” Cecilia Chang, was found dead of an apparent suicide inside her Queens home this morning, a day after melting down on the witness stand.
Chang was on trial for allegedly embezzling $1 million from St. John's and using foreign students as her personal, indentured servants.
Chang hung herself and cops found her body at 7:38 a.m. inside the disgraced administrator's Jamaica Estates home, according to federal and local law enforcement sources.
