Police presence in the range of K-5 is not very common, 6-8 is a bit more common, and 9-12 is fairly regular.
The campus police are there for internal police issues. Fights, drugs, gangs, etc. involving the students.
When an outsider shows up and attacks the school, I'm not do sure a campus police officer is properly equipped to handle that situation.
