I was trying to stay out of this as I have no idea what the solution is either, however if you have properly trained personnel in schools who are carrying weapons. No one ever need know, unless they are needed in which case it would be a blessing. Secondly, I been on this planet for 57 years and this kind of stuff didn't happen in my youth. Back then there were just as many guns and even more kids with 22s and other hunting rifles and even handguns where permitted, but nobody went off the wall and started trying to take out as many people as they could. No one seems to be addressing this and I certainly have no idea why it's happening but until 1966 when Charles Whitman climbed up on that tower in Texas and started shooting people it was a total aberration just something that never happened before and didn't happen for a long time afterwards, and at autopsy. It was found that he had a brain tumor, which may or may not have contributed to his actions. Nowadays, it seems these cowardly psychopaths actively seek out of place where no one can shoot back and try and take as many with them as possible. If you notice none of these nuts decide they've had enough of drug dealers on their corners and go on a rampage to kill them. And the only reason I can think of that happening Is That They Shoot Back. So not only are these people mentally ill, but also cowards and in the case in Connecticut. I think what we saw cant be described any other way, as the appearance of Evil, plain and simple. Evil exists and must be confronted by those of us brave enough to do so.
One thing that struck me is the zero tolerance for violence in the high schools maybe adding stress to young men that might be better served by taking their grievance to the gym teacher putting on a pair of boxing gloves go a few rounds and then shake hands. Maybe they would blow off some steam and find out that they're not that different after all. Remember the days when if you got into a fight and you said uncle. The fight was over and that was it. Something has changed in this country and in my opinion it's changed for the worse. Just my two cents

I'm all for a ban of the 88 Magnum, since it shoots through schools.

In case anyone's interested in an 80s classic... Johnny Dangerously

    Johnny Dangerously (1984) - IMDb

And I say classic in that I liked it when it came out, but I would have been about 13 at the time, so YMMV.

Hmm. 26 pages and 257 posts and NOBODY can tell me why the shooting in CN is bringing such a fire storm down on semi-auto rifles.

From everything I've been able to read, that rifle did nothing other than stay in the car after it was stolen.

Those Bushmasters must be some AWESOME pieces of machinery.

Wullie I am a little confused about the Bushmaster link too,, There were Vids Friday night of the police removing rifles from the trunk of his car ???

But I figured that the Medical examiner's report must be accurate right, why would he say .223 wounds if they actually were 9mm wounds ????

He must have put the rifles back in his car during all the chaos, then run back in the building and shot himself .. that makes sense, Yeah thats it

Glad we got that cleared up

Whew, I was kinda starting to think something was a little fishy there

First I heard that he had used it, then I heard it was left in the car, but according to this (quoting a State Police Lieutenant) the rifle was used.

EDIT: I should clarify - I wasn't there so I have no idea what was/wasn't used. I just posted that to suggest a possible answer to Wullie's point about the 'fire storm'
