Yeah if only they had been WASP members of the NRA and registered republicans. The lefties are true to form.

Thanked: 3228Never ceases to amaze me that people immigrate to a new country ostensibly to start a new life and leave old troubles behind yet some insist on dragging the old problems with them. That should never be tolerated. There are enough home grown fools and idiots to deal with without having to import more.

When you grow up in a region with a culture based on a negative religious fundamentalism and intertwined with a violent political separatist movement it may be difficult to adjust to the free wheeling ways of the west where it may seem we have no direction or purpose other than our own wants and frivolity. To give us a sense of insecurity would make life real for us as they understood it.
The so called journalists need to get their crap together in one bucket, it is so bad that we still dont know even the basics of what happened in Newtown other than an idiot shot up a school and the event is being used to promote political agendas. The speculation and rumors abound but little if any real or objective "news" has come forth, it seems you have to weed through everything available and come to your own conclusion.Last edited by nun2sharp; 04-19-2013 at 03:46 PM.

Thanked: 3228I don't think the US is alone with having an immigration system that does not work in certain cases. From my POV ours leaves lots to be desired too and I say that as a Lefty from immigrant stock. The pre screening does not seem to be too effective and getting rid of know trouble makers once here seems next to impossible. That said, I still would hate to see everyone tarred with the same brush because of a minority few who cause all the trouble.

No, but while we debate back ground checks on people trying to exercise their constitutional freedoms here in the US, no one bothers to suggest back ground checks on the loose cannons we're potentially importing into the country. Will this case even be referenced in the coming debate over immigration? Not a chance. Will the fact that 30% of our prisons are filled with illegal, yes I'm saying the divisive word "illegal", immigrants? Not a chance. Why? Because the politicians in DC don't really care how many bombs go off, how many people we warehouse in jail cells, or what havoc any of this has on the average person. Its simply opportunity as far as they are concerned.

+1. My people came over from Russia in the late 1800s and growing up in the 1950s, '60s I felt a bit odd in that the "evil empire" was hated and feared on this side of the pond. It is a small minority that causes the trouble but that is enough to cause the negative reactions.

Thanked: 734It IS a small minority that causes the trouble. But when I hear that, I think of the Catholic priests that were a small minority molesting children. Their crime was heinous enough and needs no debate to conclude. The controversial and really sinister aspect was in how the majority reacted. How they made excuses and covered up what was obviously a problem. Its not enough to simply be "not guilty".

As I've often posted, my grandfather, when I was 10, told me, "Believe half of what you see, and nothing that you read." It took me 40 years to really begin to understand that point of view. Reading bios of John Adams, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, among other historical works, it is evident that the news media has more often than not been agenda driven, and quite capable of distortions, exploitation, and downright lies.
I will say, however, that for the past 20 or so years they have more or less been discredited by their own failures in maintaining any kind of accuracy in presenting truthful objective journalism.
