Update: I unpinned the blade and headed back to the grinder to fix the geometry issue.... I took 1/8" off the blade width at the cutting edge so the overall width is now 7/8". Since the hollow starts approximately 1/8" down from the spine, I suppose the blade size measures now more like a 6/8. Now, I am in the range for getting the bevel I want without getting caught up using a bunch of tape trying to make it work. I think I am on a better path now. After I get the finish grinding done tomorrow, I will post a pic. Thanks to those who have commented.

Aww man it was such an easy fix... Just two layers of tape... I'm a go big or go home type of guy but 6/8 is plenty big

I think I will try this same design again, I will just start with 1/4" stock instead of 3/16".

You are off to a great start! I like it that you made the fix in steel. I did the same thing on my first, and tape was a quick fix. Not a good fix, I never was happy with it.
