Thanked: 983I missed those two when I looked on the site...Might have to get one of them stiletto jobbies to add to my small collection...Then again, I got enough (can there ever be enough?) pocketknives of various types already...I got RAD and KAD bad! Just not uncontrollably bad.
Yes, Victoria has some BS knife/sword laws alright. The pollies in QLD snuck a few in on us on the sly fairly recently too. They advertised for public opinion on some changes to the laws in the government gazette (online version) for one part day and overnight, before deleteing them off the site and changing the laws to suit themselves.

Thanked: 23the only real problem with knives etc is if they have certain characteristics the knife i wanted was a peasant knife made by svord and the blade can be opened by one hand or by gravity that sort of thing you can even flick the blade open so it was classed as flick knife but when you look at it there's nothing special about and i guess that the distributor proved that to customs

Thanked: 983I think you'll find that that is the case for most of Australia. Yet you can still buy them in shops here and there. I have a variety of knives that can be opened one handed all of which were legally bought or imported in, and yet under the letter of the law, many or all of them, would be in a very dark grey to black area indeed.
If someone wanted to push the point on being able to open a knife one handed, I could easily demonstrate how to open an Old Timer lock knife one handed and get it into play as either a tool or a weapon in a split second. This is not a knife that many people would consider to be opened easily, but with about 30 minutes practice...
Personally I think laws on one handed, assisted and automatic opening knives are ridiculous. A knife is a knife and if someone has the intent to mis-use one they will get whatever they want to get and do just that. If they can't get it they would just sharpen a stout bit of stick or something. Or find an alternative.
I would rather legally carry a knife on my person (or a gun for the matter of that) than lawfully not carry one, and be threatened by the criminal who couldn't give a toss about the law.

i tried to post the pictures but couldn't work it out it was hard enough doing it this way hope it works if not you can see it at svord knives just click on peasant knife i think they're an awesome knife great steel tempered extremely well the screw rivets allow you to adjust how easy you want it to open they came fairly tight i guess that's how they got around the laws

become a member of AKC, that should give you exemption. i think you have to fillout a form before you can import that knife. you might want to send customs a copy of the pic along with details about the knife and see what happens.
how much is the knife worth?

Thanked: 983Too late for AKC membership. Only those of us who are already members are able to maintain our membership for the moment. Keith and Joan have frozen all new memberships for the now. I think, due to all the legal issues they are dealing with, on behalf of the current membership. You could make a simple knife like that for yourself, if you have the mind to (and a good file and a bench with a vice or a clamp or two...A drill...Rivets, timber and steel )
