Thanked: 1936Wow...a year ago!
To stay true to the thread, tell me about lights that don't require odd batteries that won't cost a arm or leg...

I have always tried to stick with rechargeable in the past, but the price & now the competition provided by cheaper LED lights are the way to go for me now. In that case I always look for the AA lights & now "C" lights that I showed above. The LED's make the batteries last much longer than the bulbs that we grew up with.
I keep looking over the new variety of lights that flood Home Depot these days,,,, I then take a photo with my cell & review them at hoe,,, but there is also apps that will pull the product up by the bar code in the store & get your reviews there in the store.

USB ports etc. you can't go ten feet now a days without finding a place to recharge your light.
You might be able to buy 30 alkaline lights with batteries for the same price but when you go to use them the batteries will have leaked or are dead.
My wife just bought some candles that are medium size to me and burn for 48 hours......
Random new years eve thoughts.
Happy New Years to all.

Bump time....
Last week I bought an LED conversion bulb for 2 -6 cell flashlights. I played with it in an old maglight at work to try it out but thought that I needed an interesting light to put it in. I ran across an interesting 1952 Eveready that worked with working batteries in a shop for $1. The led bulb replacement cost around $9 and turned the old light into an interesting very usable tool. My camera is broke but the following link is to one that is green striped to my black....
Eveready Flashlight - 2 Cell Green/Silver Light with Narrow Boat Switch Light and NCC Logo on End - Model No. 2251 (c. 1952)
Now t o see how long the batteries last.....

Funny how the old 6-cells will work just as bright and even (much) brighter with 2 cells and a nice LED bulb. I look for someone to make a spacer to eliminate all those batteries but two (IF it is not already available). I have one of those 6 cell mag-lights as well as a 3 cell. The Mag-lite conversion bulbs work wonderfully, but much better is available.
I recently bought a really old 2-C cell with convex glass lens off Ebay. It took a screw-in bulb.
Bought this bad ass 18 dollar screw-in bulb from England and screwed it in. WOW! No way to focus it, but it lights up the WORLD!
A far cry from the old, dim, yellow days!
Remember the days when we had to keep whacking at the flashlight as the batteries got lower to get the connections going?
No more that!Last edited by sharptonn; 06-21-2016 at 03:07 AM.

Even with rechargeable batteries, the newest stuff is perfect, FME.
While I shall never darken the door of the home depot, I assure you the bulbs they sell are a vast improvement on old flashlights with incandescent bulbs, no doubt. I got a few for another pair of vintage 2 C-cell ones for my wife and daughter there and they worked quite nice!
Now....MY 2 C-cell with the badassed English bulb is another story entirely!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
