I'm a shooter and shoot my rifles and pistols regularly, so whatever gun oil Ihave on hand is what I use. CLP is my primary, but when shooting dirty cheap ammo, I am prone to rinse everything with brake cleaner and give it a soaking with clp...job done besides the barrel on rifles.

I guess how you clean your firearm and the frequency depends a great deal on a number of factors.

If you are wiffling a high number of rounds through a gas operated semi automatic rifle your cleaning routine would be a lot more comprehensive than with a bolt gun. There is just lots more parts to foul up in a semi that have to be cleaned. At least there was on the FNC1A1 8L series rifle I used to own.

The environment you use and store your firearms in plays a part too.

I have some solvent that my FIL gave me. He found a bunch of bottles dumpster diving and knew I would like it.... Well it sat forever in my enclosed carport and I was about to throw it out, and figured I would try some. It is really great stuff! It came in a little square green bottle with a black cap, no squirt tip though. Can't remember what it said on the bottle, but if I had to guess it is Kroil repackaged. I decanted all the remaining bottles into an old rinsed out acetone can and filled up an empty Kroil can with the rest. Some of the bottles broke in the bag, but I was able to retrieve over a quart and a half of the stuff. Not as red as Kroil, but smells the same and cleans like a champ! Gave some to a buddy and he raves about it. Dripped a drop onto the crane of all my Smith revolvers and the cylinders turn like they're on greased bearings. I have 3 unopened cans of Kroil on standby, but will use all this Mil solvent up first.

If used with gloves in a well ventilated work area it is not to bad. I built high voltage cable terminations with 95% in the 70's then they started diluting it till you could not get it anymore. One of the best solvents I've worked with. Citrasafe sucks.

I'm no firearms cleaning expert but it will penetrates deep and remove all oils painfully so. So be careful what you use it one. I can't remember but it might remove bluing and other surfaces.

Oh and in poor ventilation it will give you a good dose of sand eye (welder's eye). The vapors will dehydrate the surface of your eyes.

ive been wanting to try this stuff !! (below) i have used the synthetic powder type stuff before and liked it but this stuff in the link is supposed to be awesome

MILITEC-1 - The ONLY all-purpose synthetic metal conditioner and gun oil
Forgot to mention Break free CLP.

Militec has got to be my favorite. I use the grease to lather up thirsty surfaces that have a tendency to want to rust. Really awesome stuff, IMO.

I had heard of Miltec and I was ordering an extended magazine from Kahr Arms, for my P380. So I bought a jug of the Miltec as well. It came in a box with both the Miltec, and the magazine, in a sealed plastic bag. The Miltec had leaked a third of the contents into the bag and of course got on the magazine.

No big thing, but I was annoyed and called Kahr and politely complained about the packing job. The lady apologized, said what's the order #, I'll send another one out. A few days later I get a box. Not only did they send another jug of Miltec, but they sent another extended magazine ! I never expected that.

Great customer service from Kahr Arms. To see just how great it is ........ http://straightrazorpalace.com/conve...ice-rocks.html
