My point about The Mongoliad was that the authors used real martial art sparring to make battle scenes in their writing more realistic. I thought you might enjoy reading the books for the story with a bonus that the authors actaully researched their subject so the fights are plausible.

I discovered HEMA over a year ago and have been hooked ever since. Ive studied Italian Longsword, German Longsword, Sabre,Dagger....... Its soo much fun and great exercise. I played rugby for many year and when my knees said they wouldnt play along anymore i was in search of something else. I found my new way to get my aggression out with out going to jail.
For those of you that are interested there are clubs all over the place and i would strongly recommend joining one of the intro classes.

Thanked: 1160Up until now I had forgotten I even started this thread. Not many bites it seems. Yes I agree, take a class or watch You Tube even as there are some good instructionals out there. I can seriously appreciate all forms of HEMA and it really is a great way to get in shape, learn a discipline and make some new friends. I got all my equipment and study material and still can't find a study /sparring partner. I keep hoping that I find some really awesome lady out there that wants to throw down but that's a whole nuther dream and (POOF) back to reality ha ha. I guess I watched too many episodes of the Avengers back in the late sixties. Tara King and Emma Peel Whoot !!
HEMA, ITS WHAT'S GOOD FER YE !
To date this is one of the best vids o have seen on Broadsword which is where I am starting to head to.

Thanked: 1160Some day I'm sure I could see myself doing longsword or at best arming sword. I like how and arming sword can be used both one and two handed. But for now I have to behave and stick with my sabre. I really want a basket hilt but those things are exspensive and I figured the Mark 3 will give me all the satisfaction I'm looking for till I can afford one.
