Yeah it helps. I will of course get a jacket eventually but since I haven't done much full on sparring I've been mulling the idea of extra underneath or not. Some do and some don't and I'm more inclined to err on the side of caution. Funny business HEMA is since it's still in an infant sort of stage. . I bet 10 years from now you'll have damn near full blown stormtrooper suits to don on. I do like the fact that a lot of HEMA gear is black though....cause that's just bad ass and so Sith like he heh.

Had a little 8 person tournament lastnight 4members for my club and 4 from the others. We were testing out a rule set that St.Catherens club will be using in a future large tournament. I manage to win this practice event only losing my very first match.
Here is a pic of almost the entire group

Yellow tank girl,.....looks like an E mark lll ? Fun looking group too. Wish there were more single hand broad sworders here where I'm at. Holly wood could do its part with a few more movies. More Broadsword please..............still waiting for another epic Highland Scot or Zorro movie.

I looked all the way through this thread and about the only martial arts mentioned involve the blade.

When talking about Historical European Martial Arts, Bartitsu should be close to the top.
At the very least, it should receive honorable mention!

Bartitsu became known as: The Martial Art of Gentlemen.

Bartitsu was developed by Edward William Barton-Wright in 1898 and was very popular until about 1902. It might have been forgotten entirely if Arthur Conan Doyle (The Adventure of the Empty House) did not have Sherlock Holmes mention his martial which was spelled "baritsu" (which my have been either a typo or an intentional misspelling.)

My favorite branch of Bartitsu is the walking stick style of Pierre Vigny (a Swiss instructor at the London Bartitsu Club.)

While it never quite petered out entirely, Bartitsu had its followers online since the 1990s, but it had a big revival that started in the around 2010 when books started to be published and it is still a popular, albeit obscure, martial art to this day.

Another European Martial Art that employs the "La Canne" method of Vigny is the French martial art Savate.

I have heard of Bartitsuand have studied a similar with Irish stick fighting at my previous club. It was good at the time because it required very little equipment, but it wasnt very popular in comparison to longsword.

Try carrying a sword on the street and you will get arrested, whereas a cane can be openly carried anywhere -- even onto an airplane.

These days I get my combat canes from CDavis Group.

That's a beauty for sure Trillium.I bet it handles like a dream? I wonder if that's an indicator that my Sabre will be out soon. I talked to the dealer and he was expecting a batch from Kvetun any day now and my mark 3 is due this month. You like Spanish or Italian school ??
