Thanked: 1I like hoppy beer, so I usually go for the American IPA's, or the British IPA's. I like alot of Stone brewing Co. beers. Oh, and of course homebrews are always good.

here in Scotland there are some ridiculously good beers.
On my top list there's Deuchars IPA and Bitter and Twisted, which is a blond but tastes aley. i think bitter and twisted has won best beer in the world 3 years in a row. useful as it's brewed about twenty miles from me. it's such a shame that most people drink stuff like Tennant's or Carlsberg (not sure of the american equivilents, horrible stuff anyway), when there are thousands of beautiful beers out there.
i also love belgian beers. went to holland/belgium last year and my oh my. there was a pub in Antwerp thats full of religious stuff, i think it used to be a church or something. I had one glass of the trapas and i was half cut, but man was that one of the best beers i've ever had.
Ciao chaps,
Mister David

I can't believe I'm posting this, but I just needed to share:
I used to love going to San Francisco and drinking Whatney on draught. This was back in the seventies; they went out of business in 1979(sob!). Anyway I've been a Heineken fan ever since. I have liked all the beers: Larger, Ale, Malts, I like European beers much better than the standard American beers. A lot of new beers have cropped up since the seventies that I am not familiar with. I love drinking beer especially when foot ball is on the telly. ....and since there are a couple of great games this weekend, I took down a couple of recomendations from this thread and headed to the store. I have a difficult time making decisions(I'm a Libra), so I decided any beer named "Fat Tire" can't be bad:
Wow!!! OMG, I love this beer! It is an Amber Ale brewed by New Belgium in Fort Collins, Co. It's said to have a toasty biscuit like malt flavor. It is somewhere between a stout and a pale ale. All I can say is it is absolutely delicious. The smoothest, tastiest, most delicious beer I have ever drank.
Now I'm going to have to weed out all those Heinekens in my frig.
I'm hooked on Fat Tire!

Lastly, the best "beer" I ever had was at a brew day with my homebrew club this past May. I say "beer" because it had really only started its life as such, but had since then evolved. I shall elaborate.
Just about ten years ago, the founding member of the brew club got together to brew something special, I really don't know what exactly, but special none the less. They brewed about a 100 gallons of whatever it was. They pitched their yeast, no one remembered what type exactly, and let it go to town for a year. After a year they added another strain of yeast, and then another the following.
So on and so forth this happened every year for five years. I believe the last yeast they added was a distillers yeast. You could say the boys were into experimenting. They then casked conditioned it for another five years.
No one could tell you exactly what this beer had become, but my oh my it was heaven in a glass and somewhere around 25% ABV.Last edited by Kentriv; 01-27-2010 at 07:18 AM.
